Have a read here www.toyota.co.uk/owners/toyota-warrantyIf it's the hybrid battery you're worried about it sounds like Toyota have thought of that. I would probably only buy a Toyota/Lexus or Honda. I'm not particularly interested in a Finance package so for me it comes down to buying the car I like and looking for a good warranty and good service package. I think Toyota are best for warranty and Honda best for the service plan on a new or nearly new car. The most important to me is the car. Thanks David. I’m not really worried I just want to at least try and make sure I buy the right car with a decent warranty and importantly to me one I understand.. I looked at the Jazz on the net today and it’s likely the best option for my wife as it’s quite a bit taller. Interiors look great it’s just the looks of the outside that I’m unsure about… But I haven’t seen one in the flesh. The car that wins the experts votes like Honest John Autocar etc is the Fiesta but it’s so bland on the outside. Like yourself I/We won’t take finance. We’d keep what we have rather than take that option. I really do think waiting for the revised model may just be the best overall choice. Full warranty plus the updated hybrid kit is pushing me towards that as I bet the difference in price may not be that much given the prices of the current year 22 on cars. 👍👍 Are you looking at the Yaris Cross hybrid as well as the Yaris? I think the Yaris Cross may suit your wife better being higher up. I think a test drive is the only way to check the Jazz, Yaris and Yaris Cross out. I have driven the Jazz but not the other two. The Jazz was pleasant enough and quick enough but like many with a CVT type transmission doesn't make an attractive sound when the revs rise.

We get our Yaris serviced from Toyota so extends the warranty for another year and I believe the batteries are covered for 15 years

It’s a replacement for the IQ … The Yaris cross is to the wife a much bigger car. To be fair she very rarely drives now but I have to make sure we have something she feels comfortable with. The IQ is CVT and gives that rise in revs and after ten years we’re used to it. The new type CVTs I’m told feel like a tourque converter box which is a big improvement 👍👍

Have you looked at the new Aygo X? It's nothing like the old Aygo and is made just by Toyota. It's a petrol engine and you can get it with a CVT. We thought we would get one but changed our minds when we sat in it because it felt too small after the CRV but if you want one that's not intimidating for your wife but easier than the iQ for access the Aygo X could be a good option. They always look good from the outside when I see them in a car park. Just a thought!

Having said that, I’ve driven the Aygo X often (when our cars go for service) and I like it. It is taller than the IQ but I find the IQ easier to get in and out of. 😊

Maybe the doors open really wide on the IQ ? I know the CRV is good front and rear for getting in and out because they open to 90 degrees. I think because we are all different the only way to know what's best is to try the different cars we like the look of. As an aside, I still like the MX5 but I think my wife would struggle getting in and out of one these days and she has to be very careful with bending.

Again in honesty I’m not keen on the Yaris X either. I did have a wee look round a Yaris X that was parked in a car park and it was white and it’s … Well OK but it lacks appeal…. If I could get my wife into a bigger car the offering from Ford with its Puma is a hard car to ignore… A low mileage 22 plate STline with a hybrid 3 cylinder engine and 153 BHP mated to a seven speed automatic box can be had for the same money as a comparable age and mileage Yaris. The Ford comprehensively outguns even the top Excel Yaris in terms of kit and toys. MPG though as we might expect sub 50 compared to the Yaris at 60 MPG. Both are real world figures. Fords Fiesta which is more the direct competition to the Yaris I think is boring and lack lustre…..l At one time we had almost all Fords as our cars and vans. Personally I like them and had few problems over many years. I would prefer though to stay with Toyota but now they’ve shortened the warranty period it just makes the decision a bit harder if that makes any sense.

As an aside, I still like the MX5 but I think my wife would struggle getting in and out of one these days and she has to be very careful with bending. I realize that it probably seems perverse to say that the IQ is more accommodating than the Aygo given that the former is a smaller car; AFAIK it started life as a Kei car in Japan with a 660cc engine to comply with the regulations for that type of car but then they fitted the 1.0L and 1.3L engines for the European market. The rear seats are really only suitable for little kids (or legless adults 😳) but as a two seater, it’s very spacious. I’ve got problems with my left leg (new hip next month) and it’s almost as easy getting into the IQ as it is to enter the RAV. As I said, the Aygo comes a close second but strangely I’ve found the Yaris X way too cramped in the driving position which is a pity because I was thinking of one to replace the RAV.

However they do a funky metallic green that looks really nice; ditto the metallic red. The white looks like poverty spec to me even in the more expensive models. ☹️

Yes ... although both have 2.5L four cylinder units the engines are completely different - there is more torque and power from the one in the 4.5. Conversely the 4.4 has more powerful electric motors.

Is that normal ? I know the kind of use makes a difference but low 30s sounds low ??

I’m not anal about the fuel consumption but I have been pleasantly surprised by the 4.5 bearing in mind that it’s not small and it’s pretty quick (especially when you floor it and the ICE plus the two EVs kick in). We’ve had it for nearly three years now and 21.5K miles and over that time the consumption has been 43-44 mpg average. Best has been 59, worst 38 in really cold winter temperatures. I don’t doubt that I could easily push the average up if I put my mind to it but I’m quite happy with how it’s performed so far. 👍😊
