May have been but I do know that you did Kev Well, someone did... someone with a heavy Scottish accent (well, at least in writing... ) I have to admit to that... Tried to find it today, but it is not sitting exactly sitting on between the filter and manifold, it seem to have a pipe that is connected to some sensor... Hope to get more info on Tuesday.

Right. looked at this... The car does not have MAF, That came in later model. What it does have is a MAP - Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor. That I can see, and I know where it is. I will check its working tomorrow (rain permitting - been wet the last two days), but I know if you disconnect the pipe from the manifold, it all goes horribly wrong and the car stalls. So I think it is working. What I suspected from my daughter initial description of the fault, is that the Lambda sensor (emission sensor) is playing up, as I had this before. It took two years to find, as it was playing up until the car failed MOT... it was replaced at 55K miles, and looking on the web, that was about its life. The car is now at 98k miles, so I am doing some simple math, and I suspect it. The sensor is not cheap (last one was £130) so would not want to rush and replace, but a possible suspect. M.
