I've noticed a puff of blue smoke out the exhaust after the car has been standing for a couple of days. Its the 2002, with the vvti engine. Its had 2 oil changes since I bought it last summer, and done about 8,000 miles in that time. 104,000 mls on the clock.
I have been adding ethanol replacement stuff more recently but don't think its that. I tend to use BP ordinary petrol and every 4th fill up, put the better stuff in.
I am guessing its maybe the valve oil seals needing replaced, with a little oil seeping past...no sign of smoke when running. Any suggestions? Should I be only using better petrol, or an additive? The oil change recently was 0/30 synthetic oil sold by Toyota. I'm a bit old school, having used Castrol 20/50 for decades...should I be using a slightly thicker oil?

As a comparison my Vvti RAV4 has done 107k and I’m using Shell Helix 0/30 full synthetic 👍🏻

Has a cheap option, try replacing the PCV value.

The wee Rav was off for its MOT yesterday and passed with no advisory's. So the emissions are ok. I'll get round to check the start up puff of smoke, as above.

I initially thought that, but it's not losing any oil. Could be. Another idea is I've brimmed the tank on filling. I read that there is a canister on the fuel return which might be unwell due to my brimming to the top. Then there's Bobs suggestion above.
A wee anomaly I found...it seems to be a 50litre fuel tank - either the tank float is faulty or they fitted smaller tanks to cars destined to Cyprus where this started its life! I've never managed to get more than 48L in, even with the tank showing empty.
I'll need to read up on the vvti engine I guess.
