Had my Eclipse Cross in for it's horrendous 4th service last week. Auto gearbox oil changed at silly money, amongst other things. But , their technician saw and photographed my engine sump seeping all around - just a weep but enough to be very visible all around. So , it's going in next Monday to have sump tray removal and re sealed - on warranty. Car's only done 25k miles, other owners on the fb group I created are worried about theirs now.

Why should others worry about the sump gasket unless it’s a common problem ? I have to say that when I was recently looking at Shoguns as a possible tow car a wasn’t impressed with what I read about the quality of Mitsubishi cars….. The big Shoguns have a lot of issues and that’s a vehicle Mitsubishi have been building for over 15 years. Some owners love them others don’t especially those that have had expensive problems….

That's the issue , I clean mind farely regularly but you can't see the sump tray and you wouldn't see it leaking unless you removed the under car panel.
Mitsubishi actually told me to check my oil weekly after the service was done , just in case it started to lose too much oil. I wasn't prepared to do that at just 25k miles , shouldn't need to. If it had high mileage or used oil , then maybe yes. So , I guess if there are others out there with the same issue - but don't realise. Some are more mechanically minded than me , and looking themselves. I'd looked at Shoguns too , but running a 3.2 d.i d was too much for me - plus costs of repair if needed.

Our Shogun that we owned a few years back cost sometimes eye-watering amounts to service and that was the main reason why we got rid of it. However in the cold light of day since I’ve rationalized it somewhat. The Shogun is an old school 4x4 hence it needs a bit more attention than newer designs that have a much higher proportion of sealed-for-life components. Also MMC’s service policy doesn’t seem to have any optional items like other manufacturers do, e.g. pollen filters, brake fluid change, air-con recharge, etc are all part of the schedule and consequently the cost. It was still expensive to service but when the “optional” items (that weren’t) are accounted for, it probably wasn’t that much more over say five years than another similar car on which you opted to include all the extra work. I don’t know what the Eclipse X is like in this regard but I guess that all MMC vehicles are relatively more expensive re servicing simply because they never sold in the kind of numbers that Toyota, Honda or Nissan did. 😊

He was saying parts can be hard to get and are very expensive and that’s to a bloke in the trade. He said MPG is woeful but that of course depends what he’s comparing it too. Lovely looking car though the 3 door. Old hat now though …

Mpg was pretty good, usually bettered 30 mpg and could get 35-37 on a long run. Never had to buy parts as it never broke anything but in any event it had a five year manufacturer warranty. Definitely old hat but a truly lovely looking thing with good build quality (apart from the bits that were fitted pre-delivery by the UK importer’s chimps 😡).

A Brilliant tools if your a farmer and need off road capability but horrendous ride quality on the road. To be fair the Hilux isn’t any better. Gearboxes very agricultural as well. Mate had a Hilux with the big engine might have been 3.0 . It was automatic so not bad but the ride was terrible. He swapped it for a Hybrid Rav …

Jamesy…I seem to remember many yonks ago you mentioned you fancied one of these as your daily car, or a similar type pick-up vehicle. I well remember warning you aboot the ride quality. Only way to improve it is always travel with a pallet of bricks…! These things are utter peesh, as the French would say.

I can very comfortably say , I'll never have one - unless I could upgrade the suspension for a smoother ride. Be glad to get my Eclipse Cross back tomorrow.
I do remember what you said Kev 😉 was a while back now.
