This isn't really news as the FT reported rather more soberly last September ... Toyota unlikely to launch another diesel car
It's already the case that Toyota UK are no longer selling a diesel Auris and never released a diesel CHR and it will be 'interesting" to see what happens with the 2019 RAV when that is released later in the year - I'm almost prepared to bet that there won't be a diesel offering. As the [Express] article notes: "Toyota said it would continue to offer a handful of diesel engines, for its Land Cruiser 4x4 and for some commercial vehicles such as the Hilux and Proace."

There are going to be no more Diesel RAV's, they are not available to order (Or so I was told by the sales guy at RRG Macclesfield last month)

Fairly predictable... Other manufacturers will surely follow suit. Our oil burners will depreciate extremely fast now but they already have I suppose.

Maybe well looked after diesel fuelled cars will become sought after by those who actually need the torque for towing etc once they can no longer be bought new? That would be a fair outcome.

That is quite possible. In that Express report, the Subaru Dealer said they had secured enough Diesels for their customer to last past when Subaru were stopping making them. That is certainly not an indication of this diesel demise being customer-lead there.

Slightly off topic but I wonder how many diesel Defenders the utility companies have mothballed? I'm sure I read that several companies bought in bulk when production ran down.

I have to say I don't miss not having a diesel car in the slightest

There are still some diesels around, which are 'favourable' in the caravan community, and i hope these will still be around. I am not sure yet about hybrid for towing, as when towing probably only the petrol will work. I hope to have the Rav for some years to come, and than worry about replacing it.

There is supposed to be quite a few that have been mothballed I heard this off a friend that works at LR in Solihull. There’s also a specialist company that I heard bought a lot for customising but not sure how much truth is in it. We’re thinking of upgrading at some point possibly for a hybrid but I’m not sure how economical it is with a 2.5 engine. Wonder if the T180’s will be a classic 😊

I have to say I don't miss not having a diesel car in the slightest I don’t when I’m buzzing down the lanes in the IQ..... By the way did I ever mention it runs on fumes But while petrol is suittable for one type of car IE buzz boxes it’s aint for so many others. I cannot imagine me running a car like the Rav with a petrol engine ...

Admittedly I haven't used my petrol Automatic 4.2.2 for towing but I find it fairly quick and economical for a 2.0 150bhp 4x4,, I wonder with the push for petrol over diesel the UK will do something about making E85 Ethanol available in the UK as it is here in France. I filled up today (well 3/4 of a tank), here's a copy of my receipt. Mind this is the cheapest I have ever bought it at, normally about 65-69 cents a liter, 95 Petrol is about 1.45€/Liter here at the moment.

One thing that really annoys me is that burning either fuel has a detrimental effect. Diesel we are told irritates some people’s health. But remember when we were so encouraged to buy diesel cars and were told that burning petrol buggered the whole planet ? The ozone layer and all that ?
I can understand getting rid of both and going all electric but we are way off that. The infrastructure will cost but we still have to burn something to get the electric plus the crap from producing these cars is emence plus disposing of lithium when it’s had it is a pollution all on its own. See where we end up ? Full circle.
Man cannot continue having the transport we now wholly rely on without some form of pollution. Question is who do we believe and who is right ? No matter which way this swings we WILL pollute end of......

quietly smug. I spent my younger years slagging 5 door oil-burners with multiple hinges and now it seems their time has come to an end. Perhaps my petrol fire engine will rise in value. Its only got 2 doors (multiple hatches tho)
