So, new year, any new plans on the car front?? Updates/modifications for your existing fleet??
We started early and replaced the Yaris at the weekend;

Interesting video - I enjoyed that!
Sounds like the Corolla is a good find with that mileage! Looks a useful replacement for the Yaris.

The Corolla is a nice car we had one as a courtesy car when the Rav went in for a service last month.

Cracking car and ludicrously low mileage…..enjoy……always liked Corollas……nae fuss, nae bling, just reliable. But…..
If Toyota had hoff a brain……….see all that money they put into launching the GT86, a spectacular failure, and before it the five years of the Urban Cruiser, too expensive for its market placing……if all that development had gone intae a new 3 DOOR RAV….THEY WOULD BE ON BACK ORDER NOW EVEN. Local Toyota dealer chap would not even tell me how many GT86s they had sold out of embarassment methinks.

I honestly love it Charlie, it’s so much better on MPG even Bette r than the C-HR which was hybrid. The only thing I find annoying is the front parking sensors are quite sensitive. The heater is fantastic warms up so quick a lot quicker than the 4.3 used to. Had it serviced at Toyota last month I think and everything was ok. The main reason for changing over was for me getting in and out and for that it’s a lot better than the C-HR don’t get me wrong that was a fantastic car too but I think the Rav is more practical for me

But as I’ve often said I need the size and load area of the RAV4. It’s garden waste in the summer when I’m hedge cutting, No weight but a lot of bulk !! The cars have the supplementary heater that gives almost instant heat and I doubt the CHR has one. I don’t have front sensors. Have the rear ones and the parking camera though. 👍👍👍👍

It has been hugely successful in Toyota's major markets like the US hence the follow-up GR86; that's why the GR86 happened. Agree about the UC. It could have been a huge success if marketed properly with decent colours and an autobox.

I think what’s held the sales back in this country and is reported in virtually every test report is the lack of power. 200 BHP isn’t a great deal anymore. 👍👍

Rather that level of output plus the suspension settings and less/than-grippy tyre sizes produced a car that you could have fun in without the constant worry of going backwards into a hedge or losing your license. It was a modern iteration of the Lotus Elan; that car used a fairly mundane engine but a clever chassis to make an enjoyable sports car. It was no road burner either but has become iconic because it was fun to drive and out-handled everything else on the road. And it was affordable just like the GT/GR86.

But buyers want performance and that’s not been the strong point of the 86. Way back in 86/7 the Capri 2.8I had 160 BHP and that was donkeys years ago. I’m not saying there isn’t an audience for the car you describe but it won’t be very large. Every write I’ve read or every road test on the internet says it’s a great chassis but nowhere near enough power. On a track day it would struggle to entertain.

I can’t get too excited about the GR86. It’s not my thing (nor was the Elan; the Esprit was my kind of car) but Toyota make them because people buy them. Maybe not so much in the UK but certainly elsewhere. The guys I’ve known who have them like them for their handling finesse and plain enjoyment. Track days, not so much.

Hoping to upgrade the 4.2 this year had that for a long long time now so this one will go over to the Mrs and just find another invincible hopefully. Not sure if I want to go for the hybrid though. Let’s see how the prices are fingers crossed

Well a week into the Corolla and i'm loving life. The extra space, which many of you lucky buggers have been taking for granted, is a joy!! The engine is quiet and has settled at 46.6mpg. Could do with a bit more low down ooomph but once up into the rev range its fine. Gearbox slots home lovely even if the throw is a bit long. Tech is great but by far the best bit is the ride, absolutely superb. Have order some cleaner plates, the dealer ones always bug me, its booked in to get the rear windows tinted in a couple of weeks, removed the mahoosive COROLLA badge from the boot and of course added a subtle Mid Life Motors decal. In time a bigger set of wheels may appear but we'll use up the rubber it came with first. Quick spruce-up this morning;
