We are just back from Spain and the RAV needs a service and the MOT is due in two weeks time. The car is 2007 and has always had Toyota servicing and due to us now being resident in Spain, is very low mileage. Does the team think that I should continue with Toyota or get the service this year with Halfords, and get a free MOT at the same time!!

Personally I would stick with Toyota and haggle the MOT price.

Seriously I wouldn’t let them oil the chain on my push bike.
My wife’s friend Rosie took her Micra in there to get the O/S rear indicator bulb changed and they changed the N/S side light bulb. They refused to correct it until my mate Mark went in and gave them a right bow larking.
She should have just bought it here but it’s a bit of a drive which is why Mark sorted em out….

Halford would come under the category of a fast fit centre so best avoided . Toyota do fix price servicing for older cars so prices are fair, and you know it’s been done by technicians that know the cars 👍🏻👍🏻

He was so up front and was a fella who never minced his words far worse even than me. At times he made me cringe. Every outing with him was an event and we had fun alive. 👍👍👍👍

Remembering things like when Mark tore into the guy at Halfords makes me smile. 👍👍👍👍

I did let them touch my Rav4 once, I was desperate for a new battery, it was a Sunday and they had one on the shelf....I stood over his shoulder and monitored EVERYTHING he touched and did. And I got 15% discount with my TOC Halfords discount card.

Better than yesterday when I took the van to Iveco for a service and was told there was no booking! Grrrrr, little apologies and a wasted trip when it was DEFINITELY booked in. Trying again on Monday week.

A few years ago one of the bulbs on the 4.2 blew on the headlight. Being close to where the Mrs works she went into Halfords and they charged her something like £23 for a bulb and to fit it. The bulb blew again within a fortnight and when I went back to them they tried to deny they supplied and fitted it despite having a bloody receipt. Managed to get it sorted in the end but would never use them again.

I wouldn't trust halfrauds with anything at all special or complex, or possibly anything nowadays!
Between 95&98 I drove a 1990 Maestro (someone had to - she had been my wife's granddad's, then her mother's ... I bought her with 17.5k on the clock in September 95 and insurance took her with ~125k in March 98 - I was driving from Eastbourne to Chertsey every work day (and took her to Luxembourg for annual holiday in 96 & 97) ... I got her serviced every 3 months at Halfords - they were a reasonable price for servicing and there wasn't much to go wrong on a 5-7 year old maestro
Though I did notice the clutch slipping one morning <12 miles from home, I turned back home and got Halfords to replace the clutch, as by the time I got home {to call work, long before I had a mobile phone) she was hard to drive, I only just got her to the garage as a noticeable hint of slip had turned into major slip ... I took the longer route with the level crossing rather than the bridge over the railway - it was that bad
I also had to get them to re-do the tracking adjustment as the stearing wheel was not 'straight' when going in a straight line - I guess they had only adjusted one end ...
Perhaps I was just young and nieve, maybe they have always been pants!
I certainly wouldn't trust them with either of the RAV-4's I drive / maintain / pay the insurance for!
