Oh, and they now offer Lanoguard too. I’m not sure about that Lanogaurd. It started appearing on places like Facebook where some rave about it, It’s as most will know lanolin suspended in some kind of agent that allows it to be sprayed. The lanolin content if you read about it is quite low. It could be excellent for all I know but if it isn’t it’s a mess to clear off before a more conventional product like the Dinitrol we like on here can be applied. I suppose it’s ok if you have a steam cleaner but I’m not sure enough about the stuff to spray it everywhere. Opinions ?…

I like the idea that it is easy to apply with the spray nozzle and the extra long tube sprays into all the chassis parts, thinking i might have been able to do it meself but that aint gonna happen  Also i did enquire about having it professionaly done at a place in Walsall using Dinitrol i think it was but he said that no matter what you use it'll need re-doing after about five years, depending where your driving might be sooner, how true that is i don't know?? Also looked at Youtube videos regarding Lanoguard and some say it stands up well still after a couple of years but that could all be down to how well prepped the surface had been. Not sure if ours had been done when we bought it as there is/was an oil of some sort all underneath it and is still wet to the touch in places.

LanoguaThe process seems to be jet wash underneath or wherever you plan to use it. Let things dry off. Then warm the Lanogyard, maybe in a bucket of water, to enable the spray to work and not clog. Seems it sticks to anything; is not detrimental to rubber, and easy to apply. there is also a grease/thicker version for areas where exposure is more vulnerable I think. From what I've read, the Lanoguard might need topped up every year - I haven't seen anyone talking of it lasting much longer. For application, I'd bought half a dozen tarps to avoid it landing on the monoblocking....so might be difficult to remove from concrete? On the RAVs, I guess anything painted or sprayed on the rear end and sills will help it last/minimise rust. The garage who applied the Dinitrol were quite clear that I need to bring the car back each year to allow them to check the condition and repair any bits where dinitrol has been damaged/come off. The charge would be around £100 so I'm ok with that.
Just while I remember, I was checking with the local Toyota Parts dept - chap was helpful and scanned the tech files as well as parts lists for info on the various oils to use, and he found that my Rv is an import..I knew that...which was in Cyprus when new in 2002. Then came to the UK in 2004. he said that a few Toyotas are bought be the military personnel based in Cyprus then get brought to the UK. So my RAV4 auto is European spec. Explains why theres no sunroof !! I'd expect the car to be very similar to UK versions. I'm getting all the oils and fluids changed (not the brake fluid yet). I might think of the antifreeze come the autumn.

What puts me off though is the fact that apparently it needs to be replenished annually to retain its effectiveness. I’ve had several cars waxoyled over the years and it always seemed to last forever- at least until I sold the cars anyway.😊

I think to have a car rust removed and properly dinitrol treated seems to be between £600 and over £1000 that's what I was quoted on my 18 year old Lexus, the lanoguard treatment as I said was £250 they reckon to take it back for a checkout after 12 months anywhere showing symptoms of rust will be re-done the company I used do a lot of council vehicles including gritters etc, it's not £250 per year if they find no problems there's no charge and a few patches might be £50 or so There is very little preparation as the lanoguard does NOT remove rust it gets behind the rust and protects it from future rusting, if I had use of a ramp or fork truck I would defo do it myself Stew

I got a quote to Waxoyl our IQ all over including cavities, inner doors, etc. of £400. The car’s fine body-wise but as it’s 13 years old now, only has 25K miles on it and we intend to keep it indefinitely, it seems a good idea to have it done. I’ve looked at Lanoguard but I’m not convinced. On the other hand I’ve used Waxoyl on several cars and have not been disappointed. 😊

Brilliant thread. We need to get our MX5 protected now. Was going to try it myself but Johnston isn’t a million miles away from us so may give them a call first.
How much should it cost and is it a one off or does it need to be topped up each year ?
