Just bought a diesel three door about six weeks ago, done about 1900 miles in it.. Apart from the back brakes needing doing the only thing that was giving any concern was the Engine Management light coming on when the car got warmed up - which I put down to a mucked up EGR. Got an OBD reader from Machine Mart and it wouldn't find the diagnostics.. :-( despite supporting the claimed ISO OBD protocol. Put two tankfuls of Excellium through it and it was running really nicely, apart from that light.
Today, plodding up the A6055 towards Darlington - in a hurry to catch a shop before it closed.... horrible noise from the engine compartment - screeching like a stone in a disc and no power, worse with the accelerator pressed. So got the car back onto the drive.
The Rav was an interim whilst a now three month delayed new car arrives - so I'm hoping its a pipe dropped off, although a look around under the bonnet doesn't reveal anything untoward, the engine ticks over OK, there's just a lot of racket as the revs increase and no power...
Its always been tricky to start if I stalled it - 15 years of driving an auto with hill start hasn't helped with the old clutch control... :-(
I'm suspecting a stuffed turbo, although I'm hoping I'm wrong...
Any ideas from the collective great minds out there?
