Ok folks so our daughter with the 2018 Rav4 Petrol Hybrid has had an issue arise over the last few months where when she brakes the car sort of shudders and jumps forward, and it seems to happening more frequently now. She has taken it back now three times for the Toyota techies to sort the problem out and they have said all the brakes are fine and working as they should, but it is still happening. She has since found out that it could be warped discs or brake pads or both, so it looks like it'll have to go back in again but wouldn't the techies have checked that? Any ideas what it could be?

Has anyone at the dealership been out in the car with her so that she can replicate the issue?

I guess that we need to better understand what you / she means by "the car sort of shudders and jumps forward" ...
The hybrid has two types of braking: regenerative braking to harvest electrical power, and the traditional brakes that we all "understand". If the driver applies the brakes gently most of the stopping force should come from regenerative braking; if you really want to stop it applies the brakes properly. Does this "shudder and jump" occur under light and/or firm braking?
But otherwise I'd be thinking ABS oddity / fault. The ABS is capable of releasing the brakes to avoid a slide which could feel like a "jump forward" to the driver. One of my cars (can't remember which one) used to do this predictably on an expansion joint on the approach to a certain roundabout. So, does this "shudder and jump" occur at predictable places or under consistent circumstances?

She says it moves forward that much that she is concerned of hitting the car or summat in front when breaking/parking and has put her off driving it I watched her pull on the drive the other evening coming down the hill and we have a tight turn onto the drive so she was going very slow and she said it happened as she came up the dropped kerb. She says it happens just under normal light braking, sometimes it sounds/feels like the judder goes from the from to the back of the car and sometimes sounds metal rubbing metal when braking. She phoned the dealer this morning but no service personnel are in on a Saturday but she spoke to someone who said another lady had this issue sometime ago but that was on an older Yaris he said and was summat to do with the ABS but he couldn't say what?

From the description it does sound like some kind of ABS issue - cutting in and out.

She also said it's that bad that it jolts her physically forward? Is it safe to drive the car still if this is happening?
