hi folks, just joined today, i bought a 2016 rav4 luna about 4 months ago, has aprox 100,000 miles on clock, sent it in for a service and was told the crankshaft pulley was making a bit of noise, so since it is under 12 month warranty i have it sent in to be fixed, so is it a serious thing? is this the start of a long road of problems, im a bit concerned, i want to keep this rav for at least 4-6 years, and don't want any major problems happening when the warranty ends, any thoughts, advice? thanks folks

You don’t say if it’s a 2.2 diesel or a hybrid with a petrol engine ?

Joseph is in Tipperary so that'll probably be Ireland rather than Spain. But he's still not letting on about his Luna's engine ...

Can't quite figure out why a crankshaft pulley would make a noise - or is the aircon fan attached to it? Serpentine belt tensioners do get noisy with age though.

Can't comment on why the crankshaft pulley should give any trouble but you supposedly can't know for sure if the previous owner(s) messed with it. I can however comment on your concern about major inherent problems: since 2002 we've owned 7 RAVs and 2 Land Cruisers (new and used); our two girls have owned 3 Aygos between them, one an MMT. Problems have amounted to one oxy sensor replaced, one battery failure, one cat failure and one serpentine belt broken. All of these were repaired/replaced under warranty. In reality the battery failure (one of the two batteries in an LC) was the fault of the battery itself, not the car and the cat failure was on one of the Aygos and our dealer said that he'd never heard of one failing before. Sensors fail often due to crap fuel quality. The serpentine belt was on our very first RAV and occurred when it was 8 years old and can only have been due to a faulty belt as the cars have all been serviced religiously by Toyota and the original belt was replaced at 6 years old per schedule. Our only other problem involved faulty sensors that were mis-diagnosed by a Toyots service-only centre that obviously didn't know what they were doing (and were never used again!). In summary, as far as we are concerned, there's no vehicle more reliable than Toyota, especially the RAV - we've owned all versions apart from the 4.4. Nevertheless any used car is only as good as its service history and its treatment by previous owners. If you buy approved used from a Toyota dealer, you have no problems but if you buy elsewhere you really need to research the car's history very carefully. Good luck!

First off welcome to the club 👍🏻 Many crankshaft pulleys these days have a rubber insulator between the middle section, and the outer section that the belt runs on . It’s possible corrosion after 100k has distorted it and it’s running out of true.

Oh, I forgot, we also currently have an IQ with the CVT box. Brilliant little city car/runabout. Runs on fumes as one of our illustrious members often reminds us!😂😂
