One for the boffins please!
Our Spanish RAV JUST got through the MOT on emissions after a long run and luck when the test was done! First, is there a quick fix for a Cat problem, or do I really need to change the Cat before the next MOT in a years time. The engine light is on, but can be erased, and there is no loss of performance despite just clicking over 240000kms. Love the car and want to keep it going!!
Thoughts appreciated,
Ainsley

Thoughts appreciated, Ainsley 99% sure that’s going to be the oxygen (O2) sensors at fault…cheaper to replace them first before getting involved with the Cat 👍🏻

Would that still indicate that the sensors would be at fault, and do I need to replace the sensors if I have to fit a new Cat?

If you had to fit a new Cat…you just wouldn’t fit the old sensors back . Do it in the other order..buy sensors first then if the reading are still bad, then get a Cat. Now if a garage takes the job on and they can’t get the sensors out your current Cat, they will say you need a new one. To my mind it’s about how hard they try saving your old Cat…it’s just too easy and convenient for them to say you need new everything !
