Here's a puzzling one: my niece is thinking of buying a used CH-R from a local non-franchised mega-dealer. It's a 1.8 Hybrid Icon Nav on an 18-plate with low miles and a reasonable price. There was no satnav when she went to see it and the salesman said that it could be activated presumably with a Toyota software update at something like £600. The dealer had a couple of "Nav"-badged Icons, again with no satnav. It sounds a bit odd to me but can any of you good folks say if this is right? She really likes the car and if everything else checks out she is inclined to go for it and the option of an integral satnav is tempting.

Not sure about the very recent multimedia units, but it always used to be an additional module bolted to the bottom of the head-unit. Not a software update alone. See: www.toyota-tech.eu/aimuploads/7ed1a5b8-4289-4dfc-b7e7-3b490de779e7/Toyota_C_HR_Touch_2_with_Go_RHD_PZ490_00334_AIM_003_947_3.pdf*If* it's still touch 2 based, the "go" (navigation) modules very often come up on the likes of ebay. Can be got for considerably less than £600 *if* you know what you're doing.
e.g.
There are 2 levels "touch 2 go" and "touch 2 go plus"
Don't confuse it with the older "touch and go" and "touch and go plus"
Very often than not the only real difference between vehicles for the unit is the brackets that that bolt the unit in.
Possibly they've removed the nav unit for some reason?.....like maybe selling them and then an unsuspecting vehicle purchaser would be none the wiser? (cynical shcm).

To be on the safe side, I would check with Toyota, assuming she can get the number plate, or chassis number. That will tell her what was in the car when it was new. I would not trust the trader's word for it.

I wouldn’t like to think that this dealer was pinching the satnav as they’re apparently a reputable outfit. I suppose one option would be to agree to buy on condition that the dealer gets the satnav upgrade done at our cost......

Personally I don’t like the Sat Nav in the C-HR if I use Apple maps or Google maps alongside they tend to be far better and the traffic updates I find are useless in comparison. It’s a shame we didn’t hang on as the Apple play system I think is far better. Maybe Andy might know the answer to this would it be possible to fit the Apple play system into the older C-HR’s?

Surely the "Nav" bit means Sat Nav? if there is one "Nav" example at the dealers without a Sat Nav, maybe it went wrong and was removed. If there are multiple ones, then either there is some kind of product quality issue and they are removed to avoid warranty claims or they are removed so they can be refitted at an extra charge. Naughty for an item that was not an optional extra but a standard item for that trim. You can easily find out what was fitted as standard and if it does turn out they are being removed to add back at an extra cost, I would look to buy elsewhere regardless.

Toyota's nomenclature on the CH-R is a bit confusing; apparently "NAV" on the base model simply indicates that SatNav is an option. Quite strange. Amtway, my niece bought the car after the dealer had the SN activated. She loves the car.....fortunately

The only issue we’ve had is the condensation which is still on going. As we’ve not had any cold weather so it can’t be checked. RRG agreed that in winter they’ll keep it for a few days to see what happens so I’ll just have to wait till then. The fuel consumption is fantastic also and it looks nice. You said activated so I’m assuming it didn’t need a module like Andy mentioned?

As she’s a policewoman and took one of her off-duty buddies along to “oversee” things, I reckon she was treated fairly 😊

Our eldest daughter test drove the CH-R when it first came out, the 1.2 engine model i believe and i sat in the back and thought then it was nice. Then Mrs P test drove it a few weeks back and she really liked it even though she said she didn't like the CH-R but has now changed her mind about them:-X But now the Yaris Cross is coming out she likes the sound of that, even though she still loves the Rav 3 door which height wise suits me fine for getting in and out of. Now our youngest daughter, who owns an Aygo which was serviced yesterday, is saying her next car will be the CH-R, think i've brainwashed em
