Yep, it's happened, damage to the Rav and they drove off.
I only noticed it today when washing the car.
It's along the side but mainly underneath the passenger side step. Damage is mainly to the black plastic under the silver plate that's on the side step. Slight dent on metal plate.
The plan is to find someone breaking a SR Rav, preferably with damage to the other side, so they will be happy to just sell me one side.
Looking underneath, it looks like just a couple of bolts, is it that easy ?

And I am famously annoying to my family members and passengers because I take ages to park and pick a space furthest away from the place I'm going, but obviously that's not enough !!!
Based on the damage, I always reverse into parking spaces, thinking ahead of a easy exit. The person who did the damage drove in forwards and like most numpties that do this, when reversing out they don't realise when they turn their steering wheel, the front of the car immediately turns, they just have no clue.
Sorry to all those drivers who drive into parking spaces rather than reversing into them...I just don't get it. I see loads of people struggling when reversing out of a space, but I guess it would be worse if they tried to reverse into it !!!

Always taught that it is safer [and easier] to reverse into a stationary space that into potentially moving traffic. Indeed, Highway code advises similar.

Bolt off, bolt on, my kind of job.
So I am on the look out for the passenger side, should anyone stumble across one. I have found a SR on ebay which is being broken up and according to the photos, it has what I want, so I have emailed the seller.
Cheers and happy parking !!

I know Kev, but I can't drive around knowing that damage is there, that's just me !!!
I have tried lots of different stuff to remove/prevent/stay on top off these rust spots and nothing really works, even the stuff you kindly sent me.
