I had a B9010 Toyota audio/ satnav unit in my last Rav4 and tempted to buy one for my current 3 door, the GPS Antenna Is something extra I would need to buy ..it’s just what one will fit ? B9010 Rear of unit with gps socket marked. Will this Avensis Antenna work and how much of the the metalwork around it do I need to keep, or just the plastic bit in the middle ? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Avensis-SAT-NAV-ANTENNA-86860-20070-used-2005-/273807899424..any positive advice appreciated 👍🏻👍🏻

That style of antenna is a called a "patch antenna", because of the square metallic "patch" (inside the "plastic bit"), that is the main "receiving element". It'll look a lot like this inside the "plastic bit" (you can see the square patch, with the solder blob in the middle)
You may get a bit more gain with the "metal bit", (It may act as an improved "ground plane") but it will work without it. I seem to remember some of the "retro-fit" sat-nav Toyota instructions, just place the "plastic bit" alone in places such as under the dash, just on top of the instrument pack (where the antenna has a reasonable view of the sky). Indeed, that's what I did with the Urban Cruiser installation.
Those type of antenna usually contain a low noise amplifier and so DC power is supplied from the headunit, up the coax, to the amp. It's usually a 3.3V or 5V supply. I believe Toyota is 5V, but most GPS antennas are 3.3V and 5V compatible.
This would most likely would do you (but I'm not guaranteeing it!). I'd certainly take the risk though:
The Avensis one will very likely work too. Just check the connector. It looks about right, but they have changed from time to time. Certainly they've changed on more modern Toyota head-units.
Generally though, the antenna is nothing special or design/function exclusive to Mr T.

Rumour has it that a camera can be connected, but I've never done a B9010 (TNS700), so it needs a bit of detective work. Camera pins, if there, will be on the 20 pin connector, as the function of all the other connectors are identifiable. This may be the pin-out (pins V+, V-, CGND, CA+ are related to camera) or it may not. www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/183653-sat-nav-b9010-pinout/?do=findComment&comment=1473357The easiest way of connecting an ipod to this would probably require a conversion box (cd changer emulator) -> i.e. one that pretends to be a CD changer on one interface and talks to the ipod on another. Or look for a first generation "touch and go", which "natively" support ipod, but it's likely to be more expensive and if you want navigation, you'll need a nav module to go with it. This example is over-priced and there's no nav module strapped to the bottom of it: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Toyota-GT86-Hands-free-Head-unit-radio-CD-NON-satnav-touch-and-go-brz/153256563729Speaker, power connectors etc are 99/100 times common (backwards compatible). You'd also need a USB cable to the back of the headunit (the headunit connector plug is the thing), for the ipod. These act as a cheap alternative to the Toyota harness, and usually work: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-AUX-USB-Audio-Input-Cable-Adapter-Fit-for-Toyota-Camry-RAV4-Corolla-Lexus/192873562537Or just go "aftermarket" i.e. non-toyota.

You’re absolutely right that would make much more sense 👍🏻 I would be looking to spend upto £150 on getting the B9010, plus antenna and Bluetooth adapter but I feel you get what you pay for with the Chinese units. What would be great is a recommendation from a member that has fitted one, and has worked long enough for the warrenty to run out 🤔 Fitting the B9010 in my mind was about keeping it as original as possible using Toyota items 👍🏻 The pitfalls I’m coming across with eBay Some trade sellers don’t know if the dvd map is inside the unit, and I would be very sceptical of buying a unit if it’s now shown working in the photos, as it might only good as a door stop 🤔

I guess it all depends on what is 'wrong' with the existing system and what additional features you really want ...
If I were to contemplate upgrading an older system, I wouldn't be looking at adding sat nav - rather, I'd be looking at an Android Auto / Apple CarPlay unit (with DAB+ and reversing camera support etc.) and using my mobile with Google maps for navigation. But then that would be likely to set me back £400+ ...

Think the true shopping list would be Bluetooth for phone and back up camera. I have a big tomtom sat unit for trips out ( if I can remember that far back ! ). Have had a look about on eBay, Amazon and YouTube reviews but nothing jumping out at me 🙁
