For years, car enthusiasts like us have banged on about how the manual transmission was dying a slow death and how we aren't happy about it,
but we've all swallowed our three-pedaled pride, and have had to accept it. Now we're facing another challenge, it looks like the dual-clutch transmission is set to face the same fate, with BMW recently announcing plans to
ditch fast-shifting units in its vehicle line-up.

Theirs wasn't the best in the first place to be fair.
When VAG group pull theirs then people may raise a few eyebrows. The pdk, dsg, s-tronic boxes are very impressive.
Guess removing a clutch must save a whole heap of weight.

I've got a Skoda 1.5 petrol Karoq at one of the Channel ports on it's way to me. It has the DSG 7 speed box which will be my first ever auto. I had read somewhere that there were reliability issues with the dual clutch system, which could result in mega expensive repair costs. My research indicates that the VAG group had ironed out earlier problems and they now have an excellent reliability reputation. I sincerely hope this will be the case.

I'm sure that you've already read this: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/skoda/karoq-2017/ It seems the DSG in the 1.5 Karoq may be OK although there were lots of issues with it before, particularly when fitted to the 2.0L engines; it seems to work better with the smaller displacement powerplants, especially the 1.0L. VAG still apparently still has the kangarooing/hesitation issue with the1.5L though.

The dsg box in my brother's golf is fantastic.
You'll be fine.

I'm just looking forward to playing with my new toy - could be my last before duracell cars become compulsory and by then I might be sitting in one of those nice homes listening to the guest Russ Conway type pianist for the week while wiping the dribble from my chin and looking forward to the inevitable overcooked cabbage with my meal.
