on the Yaris, inside the rear tailgate. Not sure what to do here folks, any suggestions? I would cut an oblong piece of very thin carbon fibre sheet to go over the are. Radius the corners neat and tidy. Drill a hole for the cable grommet then stick it in place with two pack adhesive. Obviously remove the rust before putting the cover plate in place. An old motorbike carbon number plate would be ideal to cut the plate out of or look on EBay for a sheet on there. You may be able to find a self adhesive sheet or use double sided tape to fix. A simple cover plate that you will only see when the boot lid is up is far better than messing with paint,

Try a bit of cutting compound. It looks a bit like drilling swarf.

Seems to be a problem area on the Yaris. Trapped water/condensation and poorly painted metal don't sit well. You may get some help via your dealer with regard to anti perforation warranty but I wouldn't hold your breath. In the meantime, clean it up and monitor I guess. If the bungs will come out easily some Waxoyl or similar could be applied to the inside edges of the holes prior to refitting the bungs.

Will try the dealer first :TU:

That is all open to air even when the door is shut and water sitting on it shouldn’t cause rust any more than any other surface. Some models of Mazda had an issue from the factory of thin paint in that area so it might be worth mentioning it to the dealer. Mazda we repainting for free.

This is exactly what happened on that Yaris hybrid we had and was done under Toyotas warranty, eventually, i did have a thread about it on here but can't find it? Apparently because of where the rust is there wasn't as much paint put on that part of the car as the rest of it

Amazingly, the forum has a search function. Sometimes it works.
