No shortage of choice I would think 👍🏻 You'd be surprised. Most of them succumbed to the good old tin worm

I think old cars are overrated. I was a true Fast Ford fan when I was young and had some decent cars including Mk1 RS Turbo several 3.0 and 2.8 Capris including a factory Tickford Turbo plus a Sierra Cosworth....
Drive any of those today and they would feel old crude unsophisticated and slow. Best left in the memory bank .

A Cosworth recently sold for £125K (RS500) about £20K over the guide price.I had a 3.1 RS Mk1 Capri which I wish I’d never got rid of worth a fortune now. The price on some Ford parts is ridiculous now. An OEM headlight trim set for my cortina sold for nearly £500 recently. I’ve been trying to get hold of an original steering wheel and no joy at all. Saying all that my favourite and still is, is the Mk1 Toyota Celica. It was my first car not sure how passed its MOT but it was a brilliant car. As for the heater it was probably better than the central heating at home 😊

I think old cars are overrated. TBH you could say that about most new cars today too. Best driving experience i've ever had is in a Caterham - that's not a particularly new design.

If you’ve always wanted one ..time to get out and do it 👍🏻 What’s the attraction to the mk1 over the younger models ?

They do have a kinda kudos on the MX5 forum but the decent rust free ones really are hens teeth. They rust horribly and some spend so much money they may as well have bought a brand new car. Clarki why do you want a slow old hideously expensive old liability when you have the latest new model with its refinements and performance?

If you’ve always wanted one ..time to get out and do it 👍🏻 What’s the attraction to the mk1 over the younger models ? It's hard to explain. Drive one. You'll either get it or not. If you do, great, if you don't, fair enough. I think you also have to factor in the social aspect and ownership experience. MX5 run-outs are very enjoyable. The owners tend to have very little egos. Many of them have much more ££expensive machinery. But you cant drive the latest supercar anywhere near it's limits these days, and what's the fun in just trundling along in something capable of 200mph. An mx5 can be fun at sensible speeds and tbh that appeals to a lot of grown-ups.

Clarki why do you want a slow old hideously expensive old liability when you have the latest new model with its refinements and performance? The problem with the new whizz-bang models is that, as well as the improved performance, you also get all the useless crap like lane-keeping assist, electric handbrakes, auto wipers (that often don't), auto-dipping lights (that don't!). touchscreens that take your attention off the road for too long, etc. And when they develop a fault, they cost a fortune to repair, or you simply get the car written off. I keep thinking about getting a new car but then the above drawbacks lead me to the conclusion that my 9 year-old Saab and 16 year-old RAV are better options, IMHO, of course.

Most cars do seem to get bigger cos folk like more space. Your MX5 hasn’t grown very much .
