I'd forgotton about the Lotus Carlton - what engine did that have? Google and Auto Express tell me ... Lotus Carlton performance and specs: - Engine - 3615cc, turbocharged straight-six, 24-valve
- Power - 377bhp @ 5200rpm
- Torque - 419lb ft @ 4200rpm
- Top Speed - 176mph
- 0-60mph - 5.1 seconds
- Insurance group - 20
- Consumption - 17.6 mpg
- Gearbox - Six-speed manual
Those were the days - I never had one (of course)

Mind you, he might have been worried about how much fuel a roadtest would use. Was it Vauxhalls own engine or someone elses modified by Lotus?

According to Wiki: "Performance modifications started with an upgraded engine, which was enhanced by Lotus from the standard Opel 3.0 L (2,969 cc) 24v straight six unit (used in the GSi)." So a standard GM / Opel engine before Lotus got hold of it.
One of my managers had a GSi 3000 or was it 3000 GSi?
