Spend some of today looking up insurance quotes for tomorrow’s RAV4 delivery, been on every main comparison site and the 3 best quotes are Hastings premium at £239.00, The AA £249.00 or Saga at £152.00...of the 3 Saga seem to have the best feedback, any of you guys uses any of them ?

They're all too young Bob but I have used them in the past and they were good although I never had to make a claim. They were courteous on the phone and always put things like NCD in writing. The only negative was they put the premiums up significantly for my father-in-law after some years - probably when he was in his 80s. He is 89 now and still fine to drive - I helped him find a cheaper policy. So if the price is good, Saga is a good choice.

I have to say that I have never had a decent quote from Saga so I have not used them. Both our cars are insured with a broker for the past two years, Chris Knott. They are recommended by the Saab Owners Club but their quote for the RAV was good. They are not the cheapest but their service is good and they don't charge stupid fees for policy amendments. I also like the fact that if I did have claim I won't be at the mercy of the insurance company on my own.

I take it those are just normal quotes Bob, but how do you go about getting the Rav insured for the full value of what you paid for the Rav if it gets wrote off.

I don’t see how you can get an insurance company to pay out more than market value on a 15 year old car, it’s to young to have any classic status. Think GAP insurance only go upto 10 Years 🤔

134 For my Rav4 . 9 years NCD low risk postcode. That’s with LV on a multi car policy.
Unless you buy an agreed value policy your not going to get more than market value in the event of a total loss. To get a close value enter your registration number on WBAC. 👍

Wife's 4.3 id due on 18th Aug, currently with Aviva was £190 last year, £245 this year nothing has changed, went on Meerkat & Supermarket best was Hastings £175 who I wouldn't touch with anybody else's bargepole let alone my own, next was LV at £185, went direct to LV & they have come back at £178. Emailed Aviva, if they can match we'll stay if they can't we'll jump, they have 7 days.
We had house insurance with Saga one year but next year price went up 50%, so I told them what they could do with their quote even though they offered to reduce it back to the years before.
Edit:- Just run the wife through Saga came back as either £172 for a year or £216 on a 3 year fixed, might be tempted for 1 year.

I quite like Confused.com as a check. I have been happy with QuoteMeHappy for several years. I believe they are essentially online Aviva. They don't charge me admin fees for adjustments to the policy e.g. changing the plates! Mind you that's my wife's policy - I no longer have one and let my NCD lapse (but in truth that makes little difference!)

I’ve put my car on SORN until the end of the month, Hastings is one of my selected choices what’s wrong with them ?

I’ve put my car on SORN until the end of the month, Hastings is one of my selected choices what’s wrong with them ? My son in law had a Golf MKIV (I think) he was going round a roundabout with daughter & kids in & got hit by a van coming onto the roundabout 100% the other drivers fault, had a right nightmare with Hastings, they just weren't interested. Took ages to sort out, completely low balled him on the value, made everything as difficult as possible for him.

The only experience I have had is years ago some toff reversed into my parked Subaru and it was a good job I put it through the insurance because he gave Direct Line the run around and took ages to pay up. Direct Line were good enough but I think if I hadn't got legal protection they may have lost interest. It was only after court proceedings were issued, rather than threatened, that payment was received by the insurance company. Recently Quotemehappy were very good when my son's car was written off - exemplary response.
