It will be interesting to see how the UK versions of the two cars compare - we haven't yet got specs of either. I can't find anything on the Across on the Suzuki website and it's clear that all the journo's are working from the same press release with a spot of interpretation and invention here and there: - From Autocar: The Across emits 22g/km of CO2 on the WLTP combined cycle, compared with the RAV4 PHEV’s 29g/km, so it’s likely to use a detuned variant of the powertrain.
- The SUV’s 18.1kWh battery allows it to travel 46 miles on electric power alone c.f. which Suzuki says will offer a maximum all-electric range of 47 miles - compared with the RAV4 PHEV's 39 - 42 miles depending upon what you read.
- From the Autoexpress: Suzuki has confirmed that sales of the Across will commence in Europe this autumn, but prices have not been confirmed. However, it won’t stray far at all from the RAV4’s £33,450 basic price. Yeah, right ... anyone prepared to bet that the RAV4 PHEV will come in under £43,450?
- Apparently the Across gets 19" wheels as standard - they appear to be an option on the RAV4 PHEV
I await official details ... impatiently ...

Toyota are diluting the breed. New Supra is a BMW now a Suzuki Rav4.........
Will we get the best or worst of the compromises....

Whatever 'we' get, I think for 'them', it is becoming a matter of cooperate or die.

If manufacturers don't pool some platforms or drive-trains, they don't achieve the economies of scale that they need to earn enough profit to survive. Personally, I don't have a problem with Toyota getting into bed with Suzuki since the latter has a good quality reputation, just like Subaru with the GT86. Not so sure about BMW though....that company ain't what it used to be as far as quality and reliability are concerned.
Nevertheless, at least Toyota aren't pairing up with Renault. That was a big mistake by Nissan (and MMC) IMVHO.🤨
