Hi all. Thank you for having me on the forum.
I wanted to buy a RAV4 for a long time and now I have the opportunity. But I am undecided between two models. 1) 2.0 D4D 2004, or 2) 2.2 DCAT 2006. Both are about 150000Km and in good condition (for age). I don't know which one will be the most reliable. Maybe you can help me. The use will be mostly short distances and on country roads.
Best wishes to all, preferably on board the RAV4 Luis

:welcome: to the club Luis :TU: You say you will only be travelling short distances. Not the best type of trips for diesels. Neither engine responds well to multiple short journeys. They tend to develop issues around the emission systems and components. Equally, the economic benefits of owning a diesel are negated by that kind of service cycle. May I ask why you are considering diesel engined RAVs in particular?

AFAIK, the D4D in the 4.2 didn't have a DPF and wasn't as intolerant of shorter journeys as the DCat which is a more sophisticated piece of kit with stuff such as the 5th injector as part of the emissions gear. I have owned both and they were fine for the kind of mixed journeys I was doing at the time. The DCat is thirstier than the D4D in my experience.
Welcome to the club!!

But on daily basis it will be mostly short distances (10/15Km). I consider diesel, as the gasoline is quite expensive in here.

In that case, as Firemac has indicated above, the 2.0l D4D is quite probably better suited to your needs. If you can get quality diesel it is a good idea to use it to help prevent future problems. If quality diesel is not an option, a diesel treatment/additive with each tank full would be beneficial. Something like Millers or Archoil if you can get it.

....but don't forget to take into consideration that the dual mass fly wheel (Not a cheap repair) was very much more of a reliability concern on a 4.2 (2.0l D4D) compared with the 4.3 (DCAT).
