I won't be doing it Bob i will just be observing and making the coffee  But Both i think Bob, brother was on about stripping it all down cleaning and painting the hubs and i suggested doing the dust shrouds at the back as they're in good nik compared to the previous Rav so would like to protect them while they are :TU: Rear brake discs and pads are on order along with new front pads as i have a pair of new Toyota front discs, but they seem ok but might change em to the new ones as i'm fed up of moving em as they're heavy

Thanks for the replies both We have had the Duellers on two of the previous Ravs and i did start a thread on the old forum about rear noise on the Blue Rav which had the original Duellers fitted so when they got replaced with new Duellers the noise was a little better but still pretty loud, was it because it was a five door? but these Rapids are very quiet compared to the Duellers so will keep them for the time been and see how they are With its permanent four wheel drive, a 3 door would climb up the side of a hoose with slick tyres on in an ice storm. Wear out the supposed Chinoix rubbish then get likes of Goodyears or Coopers.

I have had them a few years now Bob and they are still in the plastic wrapping and cardboard box and when i had them out the other day they looked fine still but will get them fitted this time around, i hope :TU:

My brother wants to change the brake fluid when he does the brakes so is there any particular fluid we should be using? Just put the reg in CP4L and it is showing Pagid DOT4 5L tub for £18, Manual is saying DOT3?

Is that because DOT4 has a higher boiling point? All the sale sites are all coming up with DOT4  and even DOT5 but the entire system will have to be cleaned thoroughly as it is not compatible with 3 and 4 Must admit i never knew none of this until earlier

OK so i've been phoning around and even got onto Toyota and all have said DOT4 will be fine to use as that replaced DOT3 years ago and is what Toyota use and even DOT5 on the newer Ravs. So if we had have taken it into Toyota to have it done that is what they would've used and we wouldn't have any the wiser

Not making a meal of it Andy Just passing on the info i was given by the lady who has worked at Toyota since 1992 and hadn't even heard of DOT3 been used and doubted i would even be able to get any these days. She did say DOT5 is used in the latest Rav hybrids and at first said DOT5 would be ok for our Rav until i questioned her and told her that the manual states DOT3 to be used. How would i know what has been used when the brakes were all done by the previous owner?

Dot3 is what that car wouldah started life on. Dot4 is indeed mixable. Don specifically got me Dot3 as it was better/kinder to rubber seals. Only time a higher boiling point becomes relevant on an auld Rav is if you drive 500 miles with all calipers binding......lol.

Well unfortunately Kev not all of us have a Don type person to turn to so hope to get info and help elsewhere and tend to believe what others tell us, even technicians at Toyota thinking that they would know best??
