Hi everyone,
I'm looking for advice. I want to buy a toyota RAV4 from the year 2009 to 2014, ideally with kms bellow 100k. I manage to save $15k (AUD) as I am only starting my career as a veterinarian this year. I'm looking for a reliable car, that can take me to rural farms and if needed I could sleep inside (when working in distant properties). To be honest I don't have a lot of knowledge in cars in general. But I would like to know what people would recommend? Diesel vs petrol? Older car with less mileage vs newer car with more mileage? What should I look for when viewing a car? GX, CV... ? Car dealer vs individuals?
Thank you for helping out! Chris

Hi Chris. You're more than welcome here (we have a least one regularly contributing member from the southern hemisphere) and we'll certainly do our best to help, but R4DC is UK based and some of the models of RAV between the dates you mention are a little bit different to those sold in the European market. We are obviously more familiar with the EU models here. For example, up to about 2012/13, the RAV (the model we refer to as 4.3 - 3 for third generation) sold in the UK and Europe was a little bit shorter in length to those sold in Oz and the US. Also at that point, diesel was popular here, while Oz had options like a V6 petrol available, that we did not. Although it may be affiliated to a site we don't usually mention, you might do better with somewhere like: au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/forum/19-toyota-4x4-kluger-rav4-club/or the US site rav4world are helpful. www.rav4world.com/...others may chip in with comments to your questions so certainly stick around.

As usual shcm is spot on! The Austrailian options sound far more like those available in the USA so Junebug at rav4world could be a good option as he is always extremely helpful. It's also possible that RAVJeff, our other southern hemisphere member, might know about the options available in Austrailia even though it's a little way from him!

Hi Chris.
Great career to be embarking on.
My Rav was a 2009. Brilliant car. Still going strong (sold it to my best mate). I went diesel and bought a slightly older car because it had much less mileage and only 1 previous owner.

Thank you everyone for the help, I will have a look at toyotaownerclub.com. I already had a look at the US rav4world forum and found some valuable information there. Thank you again!
