So Mrs P is happy with Rav again and I said now the alternator is done it should last you a good while now and she said yes but the only thing she don't like are the marks on the doors, which I had forgotten about as I had put black electrical tape over them. These were on the Rav when we bought it which the previous owner couldn't explain how they got there, but looks like someone had tried to break into it?? Anyhoo are these parts easy enough to replace or a major strip down of the door? The marks are on both doors but the drivers, as in the piccy is the worst.

Take the trims off and get them wrapped.

Strange marks, almost looks like it has been done with an angle grinder.or maybe someone was transporting something long and metal and had it out the window.

I think that Charlie is right as it looks like a sleeve that goes around the door frame. It looks like the trim has wrinkled? If so you could also try heating it with a hair dryer to see if it shrinks back into shape, a bit like the shrink wrap that you use on electric cable joints. It might also be worth asking Kingo if the new part is still available. I was surprised to find that he could still supply the plastic wheel arch trims for the 4.2.

My first 3 door Rav (2004) it has paint damage on the black door frame, so I rubbed it down and sprayed it satin black. Don’t think they are normally plastic coated 🤔

How gawd knows......... Doesent look like forced or attempted entry to me. Bastards usually punch through the door skins to get in.

Don’t think they are normally plastic coated 🤔 I must admit, Bob, that it's hard to tell what with my eyesight being a bit crap in bright sunshine, as it is today. I wasn't sure about how it was fitted because the inside of my doorframe is the gloss black of the bodywork but the outside window frame is matt and seemed to have a lip inside the door. So I thought it might be a vinyl sleeve that fits over the frame.
But if you have painted that bit before then it's obviously not vinyl. Rubbing down and spraying could well be the easiest option. :TU:

Thanks for the replies. Summat with a sharp edge been transported and hanging out the window could be possible but as I say it is on both doors. It is a thick hard plastic that has covered the metal frame and is brittle. Wrapping is a good idea Charlie but not sure how or what is involved with getting this piece of trim off as it goes all round the top of the door?? Might try heating it Jim just to get it smooth again but I tried to push one bit back in and it fell off.

IMHO that is a film wrap, or foil as it can be called, which has been heated by some bellend to repair, but made annairse of it.

No Kev definitely genuine part of the door as i'm sure it was on the other Rav we had. Whatever has made those cuts was a sharp instrument of some sort with force needed??

To my completely untrained eye it looks like a vinyl film that's got too hot in the sun, a wrapper might be able to get it off & replace it.

How thick is this film then P? I'd say what this is on here is about 2mm thick and has gone right through to the metal framework with the cuts angled in deeper by the inside.
