Took my car in to Mitsubishi Colchester to have a slightly rattly glove box replaced. I sat in the showroom waiting for it to be done. I then had a wander around the cars in the showroom , admiring the Shogun etc.
I wandered over to the big windows overlooking the valeting bay.( the showroom is above it )
There was my car, being pressured washed as part of the service. They then used a silicone blade wiper thing to clear off the access water.
THEN I saw the chap had a cigarette in his hand. He took a drag on his most needed cigarette, threw the butt onto the ground and.... exhaled in my car 😔
Upon being given my keys back , I asked the service staff to join me in smelling my cars interior ! I was right... it now stank of cigarette smoke ! I was furious. They've offered me a complete valet f o c but with an outside company.
Later that day , I was called By Glyn Hopkin Mitsubishi MD.
Very humbly apologising and asking if I was ok and if there was anymore they could do. As they are extremely keen to keep customers happy.

It does seem to be the valeting staff that can spoil the good name of a dealership .....my car had an airbag recall and after studying the dash cam footage and by change being on the same forcourt putting fuel in their courtesy car , My car was use to go to the local petrol station to buy their breakfast , no seat cover fitted ...left unlocked , I’ll bring it to their attention next time I go back.

Yep it's amazing what we see when we can see our pride and joy being used/abused by the very people who we expect to look after it. There will be email memos being sent to all depts about it.

I always insist that it is noted on the paperwork, prior to handing over the keys, that the car is neither to be washed or valeted. Doesn't matter if it is the RAV, ASX or SLK.

Never used a Main dealer. They just don't care. Not saying an indie does, but find a good one and they realise you do.
The high end brands are no better. Porsche couldn't even fit the number plates straight on my mates new macan.

I must say that our local Mr.T is very good.they always valet the car when it is in for a service and I've yet to pick up any untoward smells, etc.
In fact, they did an air con service/refresh on the RAV back in the summer and because it took longer than they said it would (I was waiting for it because they quoted an hour and a half for the job), they waived the charges completely.

You are lucky Jim as our local Toyota dealer, the one I have praised in the past, has really gone down hill now, yes Charlie they are on that hill now as far as I am concerned. All the staff we knew have left over time and Mrs P went along with our youngest daughter for her first MOT on her Aygo, first time I hadn't gone along, and they were both treated terrible by the new service manager, good job I didn't go I suppose or if I had would we have been treated differently.?? Both sales managers we got to know have also left within months of each other so not sure what's going on their?

I can only assume dealers like that have so much custom from business they can neglect retail customers. My wife and I often look at Toyotas in the car park but then dismiss them because of our experience with local dealers. For instance we saw a new hybrid RAV this morning - it looked great but we wouldn't put our money into one because of the local dealers. We have so far only had excellent treatment at Honda and they valet the car to a high standard. Hopefully this will continue to be the case when it is next serviced. If so we will buy a Honda or Mazda when the time comes for another car.

Everything round here is Arnold Clark. Some get a good write up, others terrible. It really does boil down to the individuals involved. How hard can it be??!!
