Just been reading THIS post on the other forum (mods delete if not allowed) and can feel the owners anguish as this was one of the reasons we let our 04- 5 door go as that was nearly wrote off due to similar damage but not has bad. I can't see why it wasn't inspected and revalued as has the owner says if it was a 60s Jag would that have been wrote off so easily I think we all know now how much a good low mileage 3 door is fetching so why write the car off so easily when it's still got plenty of life left in it??

Far King disgrace.......put simply, the insurance shits have had yer money, you can go self copulate. Just GIVE IT BACK to the people, let them fix it, then have it checked and MOT’d FFS.....HOW SIMPLE IS THAT.......? Yes.....open to abuse such as cutvand shuts, but that will ALWAYS be out there regardless. RAGING....!!

Insurers value a car on what is worthntrade. They do not pay extra for sentiment....
If they did you would get lots of folk demanding more cos their old this or that car is worth more as they paid over the odds cos they got caught up in the sentiment trap.

Lets be honest, in the grand scheme of cars, an old 3 door rav ain't worth jack.
If its a cat N they can always buy it back.

I can however see how a situation like the above takes place. Cars have a trade valuation whether we like it or not and that is what the insurance will base the settlement offer on. They have no sentiment invested simple as.....

Sorry Clarki.....utter pish......that is why I suggested GIVE THEM THE FAR KING CAR BACK......DO NOT classify it as phuqued.....it is NOT phuqued. Just sold a 3 door Rav to a Mellow Fember who paid good money and considered it more than “jack”........just coz some masturbator wacks into the back of ye does NOT mean YOUR car is worth “jack” whoever him be.......he is at fault and should pay imho. The person who bought our 3 door could fix that “jack” car for not a lot of money.

Our old 4.2 when written off only needed a new front wing wheel arch extension. I know it’s back on the road again because we had a letter from DVLA saying someone’s applied for a new log book and if we have sold it or not. You are right though some cars have hardly any damage and are written off. There are people out there who would buy a car that was written off and back on the road again after being repaired. Our Cortina is insured for an agreed valuation and the option of buying back if written off. It was agreed when we took out the policy but not sure if you can have that on a modern car.

But it's not their decision??!! Suggest whatever, doesn't mean it'll happen.
In a world of £20k fiestas, the price of an old rav is more or less fcuk all, so is it's value...simples!!

Price = amount of money expected. For an old Rav - not much. Value = usefulness - rusty old Rav - even less. Happy to help.

It's been the most reliable motor I've owned to date and has cost little in running costs. If I wanted to replace it for something similar , as it suits our lifestyle then the nearest like for like replacement is possibly the new Suzuki Jimny at close to 20k , so to me its worth a lot more than it's current value.

And for you that's right. The value of your car to you is possibly priceless. But we're all in the real world and understand that is not the case.
Plus, you're not an insurance company whose primary concerns are to reduce risk and increase profit. If they paid out on sentimental value they'd be bust after 1 claim!!
I've a car purchased for my 40th, represents far more than the monetary price for many reasons. It's now insured for more or less half what I purchased it for but to me its worth 3 times as much, that however is not its monetary value nor the price I would expect if it was to be purchased from me.

Have read that last paragraph at least six times, and now have a good view of a malignant tumour........coz ma head is up ma arse trying to unnerstaun it......!
Simple version.......insurance company SHOULD NOT burden a car like that PERFECTLY FIXABLE RAV with a classification that insinuates it is a write aff. That stigma makes it totally unsaleable and of zero value, but mainly it should not be on the road.....it is a leper. SO OFFER IT ONLY to the owner affected to fix AND STIPULATE THAT IT GETS INSPECTED FOR REPAIR QUALITY. All this talk of money and profit is utter pish......DO YOU WANT TO PAY TO FIX YER CAR BEFORE AH SCRAP IT.......? Aaron who bought Funnerburd Too would fix that properly in a bliddy weekend fgs......!
Sorry....meant to say.......STUFF “SENTIMENT”......it boils doon simply to that car can be fixed for £x.xx........to replace it could cost 4x....5x.....6x and all because some airse hits you up the airse fgs.......? Snow ferr.......!

We touched on the current trend to write cars off for often completely insignificant damage.
It is a fact that this is going on and explains why so many cars are now sold as damaged repairable. There are blooming hundreds of them.
The obvious way out for the bloke on the other forum is to suck it up buy back the car repair it and spend the rest of the money on joining a decent forum.
Buying a damaged repaired car is very often no longer the poor bet it was.... Look at it this way..... My IQ the one that runs on fumes ... Not sure if I ever mentioned that...... Would certainly have been written off when I hit that Deer.... But I repaired it myself along with the screwdriver damage the one armed thief did. So it’s a damaged repaired car.. But it’s not fegisterded as such. So matey should simply negotiate a sensible settlement and get his car sorted. Simple.
The truth on value is somewhere between Clarki whom I suggest is having a bit of fun and those who are willing to pay top money for their beloved 3 doors.
Jase me old mate. I’ve said this before...
You bought your 3 door about the same time I bought my 4.4 Invincible. Since then my car has depreciated by twice the amount you paid for your car.... Whose the mug ??
