NCDs??

Mrs P insured the Rav over the weekend with a different company as the previous one as usual had put the new policy up by a quite a bit, but after renewing with the new company and paying, at the end it said "one final step to complete the policy" which was to prove the amount of NCDs she had which we had put at nine years. So she phoned the existing company and they said she had only got twelve months NCDs because she has only been with them for that period of time and that the previous NCDs that she had got are not carried over and to get the full NCDs you have to be with that company all those years?? But when we took this insurance out they were happy to accept the full NCDs as we have been changing companies every twelve months.
So is this correct now, you only build your NCDs up by staying loyal to one company year after year who's prices just go up by large amounts each year??

I don't think that is correct. What NCD was applied by last year's insurance company on their renewal quote?

Complete borrocks! NCD is cumulative and your previous insurer should have noted your total NCD entitlements in your initial paperwork each year and in the renewal docs. Get straight back onto them and demand the info and then go to the insurance ombudsman and complain if they don't play ball. Complete tossers!

I have looked on this policies docs, it's all on line, but can't see any mention of the NCDs, but have found the letter they asked us to get from the previous insurance who was Toyota showing that Mrs P has ten years NCDs but can't use that on the new ins as it was on the Blue Rav with a different Reg  So this proves that this ins company has the full NCDs so why say she only has twelve months Can't do nowt now till Mrs P gets home from work later.

If I’m correct NCD is valid for 2 years so give your new company the Toyota renewal paperwork .

Like others have said the NCD is transferable from one insurer to another. I think it is all on a database too. The NCD is for the person and the car is immaterial so Toyota's insurance shows you entitlement and they and your last insurer can confirm no claims have been made. Good luck - although in truth there is no need for luck!

Yes Kev I agree we hate changing over the car ins each year and do think it was a bit of a sly trick at the end, but Mrs P says to keep with it now it's paid, however she did phone her existing ins up this evening and spoke to someone more useful but he said that there is only twelve months PCD on the policy as that is what was put on the policy when she took it out and that they have no record of the letter we sent to them from Toyota ins, so I have now got permission to talk to them tomorrow and have to send a copy of that letter to them again, but there is no way we would have only put twelve months PCDs down when we know she has ten!!!

Well I phoned the existing ins company up and we have now got eleven years NCD with an email to prove from them. I had my moan at them but the letter from Toyota seemed to do the trick  Thanks once again for your help and advice :TU:
