On my Mk3 facelift the rear proximity sensors have all stopped working at the same time. They were working perfectly, now they're not. The front ones work fine. Anyone had this or got any ideas what the problem may be? I have not checked or looked at anything yet. Thanks.

Have they been switched off? There's a switch in the boot I believe ...

The switch on the boot is an option at time of fitting and/or buying, so hopefully you have one, usually fitted to left of boot. If not fitted, more than likely the wee ECU/four way splitter behind the air vent(usual area) has chucked it.....mine did and was £60.00 to replace the bliddy thing.
Rear Proximity Sensors (RPSs)......trust these are same things as RBBs....? Reversey Beep Beeps....? LOL.....

Thanks guys. I cannot see a switch in the boot having turfed out the platform etc etc. Bigkev, when you say "the air vent" can you be more specific re its location? Cheers.

If you have the switch fitted it is most likely to left side about 30cm above the 12V outlet just inside the door frame. At first glance from the rear of the car, with the tailgate open, it is reasonably well hidden by the curry hook on the door frame. I have one but did not request it as an option - I believe it is standard fit with the reversey beep beeps so that you can switch them off if/when towing.

Well anyway, no sign of a switch as far as I can see. I mean, all was well and 'to the book', then the rear sensors stopped working.

Well Bliddy McKingo wanted £12.00 extra furra switch when I bought mine to retro fit. Steve.....long shot......if you know anybody with same car and beep beeps, swap over the ecu part and see if it works.....? As I said, it will be located inside that triangular exit vent, stuck to bulkhead by a wee square of velcro if fitted accordful to Toyota instruction sheets. Also worth disconnecting beepy speaker itself and applying a supply to it and see if THAT has chucked it.......more than likely the ECU/splitter fing.

Thanks so far guys. Found and removed the panel and lo and behold, behind it doth lie a tiny speaker and a fag packet size of electronics. I will visit my friend soon and we will have an in depth look around for loose/poor connections, faulty speaker etc etc, two people needed so that one can get run over while I reverse into him..
BTW, under what conditions should the bleepers operate? Obviously there has to be an object in close proximity to trigger a sensor - is that all, or do you have to be in reverse gear? anything else?

For the reversing sensors to operate you need to be in reverse gear. I'm guessing that there is a switch in the circuit that only makes them "live" when you are in reverse.

Kristoff.....that switch do be called the reversing light, as that is the circuit one tappeth into for live supply methinks, que.....? The fag packet is indeed the wee ecu I had to replace and they worked immediately.

Update. as previously reported I got at the control box etc and basically left it hanging until I had the time for further investigation. Ha, it's started working again. As an electronics engineer who's used to dry joints, poor connections etc, I'm edging my bets that that's what the problem is, and leaving it hanging has enabled it to juggle about a bit and re-make (temporarily) those poor connections. I'll remove all the connections and clean them with contact cleaner and also, if it's easy to get inside the plastic box take a look inside for more poor joints etc.
