Didnae want to dump this in on Charlie’s Mercedes CLK55 wishlist, but will need especially his input but crave help from all ye enfuseyasts......
I have a TERRIBLE itch to buy a Jaguar XJ........DIESEL 3Litre.....299bhp. Have only very recently resurrected my interest and only looked on likes of That Ebay thus far, and the amount of depreciation in only a few years astounds me, dropping from new at £60k-ish to three/four years old at £30k-ish. The actual variation in prices people are looking for them also is strange......am I missing sumfink......?
Absolute top budget would be about £32k.......apart from being nuts, am I nuts......?

If you want talked out of it, BK, I fear you've come to the wrong place. If I was going to buy a Jag ( and it wasn't going to be an F-Type) then here's what I would go for:
I have to say that I am not really a big fan of modern Jags like the the XJ or the XKF; they look like too many other cars, not distinctive at all. Nevertheless, if you got the itch then scratch it. What, are you going to take it with you??

Never a truer or more perfectly timed word spoken in jest, Jimbob…..got call couple of days ago.....wee mate in Glasgowshire suddenly clopped his pogs, so the itch which has been around for 30 years plus may well get scratched. Your comment greatly apprecificated……. That coupe Jag in your photo.....I lived a fair part of my life in a suburban Glesga council estate. A local jeweller had exactly that vehicle as well as many other Jags through the years. Forgot that car existed.....shouldah heard that when it started up......music to my young ears back then.

My brother in law drove one on a track organised by Jaguar. He was very impressed - from what I remember he said it handled really well due to the lightness of the aluminium body.
If you have the cash and it's not earmarked you could treat yourself and enjoy!

Kev I have driven the late shape XJ cars extensively. Some on the road plus the 5.0 V8 sport plus the Supercharged V8 ones at Dunsfold Park which is the Top Gesr Track.
To cut to the chase the S engined V6 twin turbo diesel is the pick of the bunch.
OK it doesn’t have the big Horse Power number but hell it has some torque. As a quick and supremely comfortable point to point car it’s one of the finest cars in the world.
The ride quality has to be experienced. The power is phenomenal. The toys including the Virtual dash will keep you amused for months. The handling of these big cars will shock you. This is a car which is lighter than its smaller sibling the XF by virtue of its aluminium bodywork.
Top spec is Portfolio . Anything from a Premium luxury up is fabulous. But get a Portfolio. Standard on that model is the S engine. 275 BHP and 600 NM of tourque on the early cars. Nigh on 300BHP and 700NM on the facelift later cars.
Nuts ? Nuts not too.... As David said when I met him a couple of weeks ago..... He and I have had a couple of what David called “Life lessons” provided by in my case at least the amount of bloody funerals I’ve been to just this year alone. Makes yer fink......
There are nay pockets in a shroud my mate 👍👍

I was 20 at the time worked like a lunatic.on the roofing in the day then on the doors at night. Was British Super heavyweight full contact champion and not a care in the world. Life was good. Very good 👍👍👍👍👍

Jags depreciate massive in the early years - superb used buy.
Had an XE as a courtesy car and it drove beautifully. Love the fact it's rwd but you can get an awd system which will help you out when things get tough.
Remember if it was over £40k new, the tax is HIGH for the first 5 years!!
Quite a few options on jags I believe. They told me even folding rear seats was an extra!! Probably why the variety of prices.
