Hi all
I have a 2002 NRG, looks great nick on the outside but always been aware it’s quite corroded underneath. Think was due to its previous life down the coast.
Anyway just scraped through an MOT yesterday and the guy recommended getting it all under sealed as there is surface rust on everything.
Anyone recommend a method for doing this? Time is at a premium so may pay to get it done somewhere
I’m in Kent

Check for a local company that uses Dinitrol.

Check for a local company that uses Dinitrol. Not waxoil? Much of a difference?

Dinitrol is a dark grey wax that sets off to a 'skin' on exposed surfaces a lot better than Waxoyl. It has the appearance of underseal and is also more durable where exposed. In my mind Waxoyl is probably the better product where it gets injected into cavities.

I've used Waxoyl on several vehicles with good results and no rust - ever! Personally, I wouldn't get too religious about using Waxoyl or Dinitrol. They are both good and will preserve your car well.
If it were me, I'd look for a local firm with a good reputation irrespective of which fluid they use.

Thanks for clearing that up
MOT man went to town with his toffee hammer underneath and has scratched surfaces that were covered forcing my hand really. Good old Kwik Fit

ive Got prices for around the £200 mark, booked it in. I have a 3 door rav so it is quite a small floor area to cover.
Also found out the rav is ULEZ compliant so another reason to keep it going!

Are you only having the underside done? Usually these rust-proofing guys do all the cavities and box-sections internally as well. If they are doing everything for £200, that is a very good price.

No it’s just the underside I’m going to do. Sills, floor pan, sub frames etc. Should be enough to keep her going for a few more years. I don’t think Ravs are notorious anyway are they?
Will let you know.

Will let you know. No, they aren't. I've had 5 RAV4.2s and none have had any rust issues at all. Only had our first 02 car treated and had the works done. It just didn't occur to me to only do the undersides.

Yea no need to over do it for the time being, it’s 17 years old and this is the first MOT that I have been advised to get anything major done in my ownership so far.
I had a Jeep Patriot in between ravs (a MK1 GS 3 door) and my current MK2 and the Jeep was diabolical build quality. Couldn’t wait to get back in a rav!
Sod’s law after talking about reliability just noticed oil under it, seems to be coming from where the prop shaft meets the engine, would that be the front differential?

Is surface rust an MOT failure? On the last MOT it was an advisory on everything basically underneath. I know it’s spent all of its life till we got it on Oban Scotland so maybe that’s why it’s got a lot of surface rust

Mine sounds similar to yours, a life on the coast has probably shortened its life
