this sounds promising simon, thanks for great update, and looking forward to hear if it worked for you i just tried the hot water tip but sadly did not work for me, been looking at the scv and wondered can you just change them with out software update, looks like you can still buy the old type and havent seen modified one on ebay which has a thicker washer

today i had a day off so spanners out, before starting it today i took the scv off. as it is a simple job.on inspection it looked fine and the little valve thingy inside moved back and fore with ease (i used a small screwdriver for this) i then warmed it up with a hairdryer till it was hot.refitted, reprimed the pump turned on ignition waited 1o secs and it started first turn of key.im waiting now till tonight to try again but it does look like the scv is playing up,(a thanks to simon for pointing me in this direction and thanks to all as well for help and input).im waiting to hear off simon to see if it fixed his rav.im going to order a new scv from pg jones and will update this thread to see if it has solved the problem fingers crossed for now..a great team effort can solve anything.thanks again

hi guys, just to update i started it last night..started first time. and it have just started first time this morning ,now im a bit confused but also happy,as all i done was take the scv out looked at at moved the valve thingy back and fore warmed it up and put it back in.(cheapest fix ever i hope so)i think i will still get a new to be on safe side and keep it in the jeep for when needed, the scv must throw up a few problems as i owned a 2003 2.0 d4d before this one and i had to have the scv's changed on that.the symptoms on that were totally different it would start as normal and drive great until you put your foot down it would not rev over 3k under load, like it was in limp mode, there were 2 scv's on that a red cap and green cap they come as a pair i think they were about £160 for genuine toyota ones from ebay. back in love with my jeep again as i was seriously thinking of parting company,

I can see that you will fit in well here! :TU:

Hi Taff, i didn't get on so well with the change of the SCV, as the newly supplied modified unit that is supposed to fit this pump is too long to fit fully inside by 2mm... I'm ringing the supplier today to see what they have to say.. I hope things continue to work for you, it's a really frustrating fault when there are no obvious clues to the problem item.

I know nothing, but in the thread that you linked back to in "the other place" the picture in the sixth post clearly shows a "washer" for the new SVC - presumably to ensure a proper fit?

Well I spoke to the supplier and suggested that an adaptor was missing. I wonder if this was the last SCV of this style they had, as they did not offer to supply another the same, instead they sent me by next day delivery the standard short body unit, which was great service. I fitted this as I wanted to move forward a step at a time and for the last three mornings, even at -7c it has started OK, so I hope this may have solved the problem for now... I would suggest that if anyone is going down the SCV route, go for the longer body, modified unit but make sure the adaptor plate, as per the earlier picture is supplied.
