So the new beast has arrived and it does look daunting. Soooo, the local Road Radio will fit it for about £100, probably plus connectors, do you think this is a fair price?

I guess when you consider that they made nothing on the sale of the unit it's not so bad Ainsley - and the job would be done and dusted!

Ainsley - don't know if you are a "RTFM" guy or not, but in my opinion it's worth downloading the full manuals ( seperate for the SatNav and ICE system ) from the Kenwood website. The Kenwood helpdesk is one of the most helpful I've ever found if you get stuck. Oh, and update the software as soon as you have it working. It makes communication with newer phones much better. If it's like mine you just need a 32gB SD card to do the job.

Thanks Chris, I had a good chat with the people at Connects2 and they gave me a list of bits that the RAV will require, and the part numbers. The manual is very helpful and good to know that Kenwood are there for further advice. So, we are off to Spain for a couple of months on Monday, so will collect the necessary bits and be ready to have a go at fitting when we get back in March. There is also another fitter close to where we live and his price was £ 50 to fix it. If I run into serious trouble I will take it there, but actually, I look forward to the challenge!! Incidentally, this unit came with a full fitting kit for an Audi TT, so if anybody is thinking of changing their Audi!!! ?

I had a pioneer unit in the 4.2 similar in spec to Chris’ kenwood I was able to buy an adaptor for the steering controls. It was actually straightforward for someone like me by following a YouTube video 🙈🙈. I know the unit Chris has is a nice system and had a few more better features than my Pioneer. IIRC I had to buy something called fillers as the unit was slightly smaller than the original. I did enquire about having a unit fitted in the 4.3 and the dash fascia was around £15 and the steeering adaptor £20 in the end decided to leave the original in as it was upgraded to having a rear view camera fitted kindly by our resident electronics wizard (SHCM)

Update! The unit has been fitted and is working! A few niggles to start. The DAB seems to take a short while to settle in. After that, it works OK, the sound is SOOOO much better than the old unit. The sat-nav generally starts up straight away, but occasionally takes up to 15 minutes to catch up. I am going to have to RTFM as you say, but at the moment, the phone thingy isn't working from the steering wheel, and I had to buy an additional DAB arial, but fitting included the GPS arial. So far, quite good.

Let that be a lesson to those who think changing yer SPEAKERS will give ye better sounds......NAW.......change the SOURCE like what which Ainsley has just done. Linn Products chairman Ivor Tiefenbrun taught me that in the early 1970s. Oh how the world laughed when he said the turntable is the most important link.......then the world suddenly listened.
I have spoke.......

Thanks Kev!!

Pleased you have sorted it out. By chance I updating a portable TomTom for GPS week number rollover! I hardly ever use it and I would not bother buying one nowadays, nor would I pay to have a sat nav fitted. What I do use is Google maps on my phone which I find as good as anything - apart from my wife who seems to know the best route at all times
