I want one, but I've gone 40+ years without one & I can think of only one occasion where one would have been useful & that would have had to have been on the back. So why do you have a Dash cam?

Reason is as there are a lot more idiots and scams going on the roads today and folk blatantly denying that they were at fault so any video footage to prove otherwise has gotta be a good thing :driving: My daughters boyfriend seems to be a magnet lately for accidents and so far he has managed to prove none were his fault with the use of the camera

I'm a gadget freak so these things appeal. I do however have them in the hope that I'll never need to use them as proof of innocence!

Same question could be asked of having Fully Comp. insurance rather than just Third Party........Fully Comp means you are insuring yourself from not being an eejit and damaging your own car in essence. As Paul says, the amount of willytops out there who will deny they are at fault, and I can play them a wee video.....? Makes sense to me......
What REALLY hisses me off is the amount of Police forces who will NOT take action against dangerous drivers as "they don't have time to pursue all footage", but come a-begging for footage when it suits their purposes.

A friend of ours was cut up by a car that stopped suddenly and the driver and passenger got out holding their necks!! He pointed to his dash cam, and lo and behold, they jumped in their car and drove off. That's why you have a dash cam!! Some insurance companies offer discounts for a dash cam, so it could even pay for itself. :TU:

I've got mine for the same reasons as already given , so many numpties on the roads these days you need something for extra insurance. I now need to get one fitted to the wife's IQ.

Same as previous reasons. I think it’s well worth it and as you have so many idiots these days if something was to happen it’ll sort the insurance out quicker instead of waiting years for the insurance companies to sort it. It’s cheap, easy to fit (I fitted mine😊) amd simple to use.

I have had both a front and rear dash cam fitted for many years (in fact all of my cars and my daughter's).
Some of you may recall that I recorded footage, which quickly became evidence for a maniac who literally tried to kill me and my family...no kidding.
It resulted me in submitting it to the police, the driver got banned for 12 months, a 3 month suspended prison sentence and a fine, his wife also got charged, because BEFORE the police presented the footage to them, she lied and said he was at home all day !!!
Without my dash cams, it would have been my word against his (and his chavvy wife) and he would have continued on his merry way terrorising other drivers.
When you spend thousands on a car and travel with loved ones in the car all the time, spending money on a decent dash cam is a no brainer and not he worth considering, just get one.

We bought our dashcam for our holiday in Australia partly because there was a $2400 excess on the camper van and I wanted a record of any possible accedent, but also so we could capture parts of our holiday that we might not have a record of otherwise. But it does take a lot of time to sift through the footage, a good tip if you do this is to keep a notebook of what you saw an when, and you can track down the footage much easier. I have now installed it in the rav4 again hopefully to simplify any dispute over an accident, especially as we are in France so there is the added complication of the language. Dave

Has anybody had there dash cam stolen when left in the car, reason for asking is when sat Navs came out you always made sure their was no trace left on the windscreen to indicate the vehicle had one.

I once got a letter through the post from Sheffield Plod saying that they'd seen a sat Nav mount in my car in a car park & asked me to ensure that it wasn't left i the car & they suggested removing the mount from the screen. The Chief Constable got a letter from me about what I thought of his use of Police officers patrolling car park looking for cars with Sat Nav mounts on the windscreen

I tend to buy the flush fit type that stays fixed to the screen so doesn’t draw so much attention 👍🏻

All our dash cams are the unclip removable type, and just leave the mounting in place, hard wired and unobtrusive. Using a Halfords type round stick on base works if your trying to fit it to a RAV's screen with the knobbly bits!!
