Hi folks.
I'm in Buxton for the weekend , drive the 200 miles on Friday. Going home tomorrow. Checked oil and coolant Friday before I left. Checked oil and coolant earlier before I drive tomorrow. Oil is fine.
I've seen pink coolant splashes on the reverse of the expansion vessel by the spout thingy under the cap. Those splashes have got worse , and I've just topped up the coolant with about 1/2 cup of water... to max. As I noticed it was now sitting just above min level. I've watched the coolant level lower ever so gradually over the last.... 2 years. Since I bought the car. It's only done 43k miles now. Should I be worried ? Will it spit out water now it's on max. Any help gratefully received as ever.
It's 2012 2.2 D4D with 43k miles .

Very unlikely it’s the dreaded Jamie given your car has the 150 engine. Monitor exactly what it does and let us know. Remember if you overfill it will get spat out.

Agree with Charlie.
Don’t worry.

Some of these people talk the most UTTER PISH......!! Interested to hear the outcome of your pink splasheroonies though.......that engine should NOT have cylinder head problems, but going by some of the answers those willytops gave you, surprised you didnae slit your bliddy wrists ffs......lol.....!!!

Hi kev, Yep... I knooooow. Which is why I came here in the end , to Don whom I've met and trust wholeheartedly. Charlie, whom I've never met but seriously value his knowledge. And of course all others on here who have always done me proud. Including your good self. I got home, lovely journey... easy. Yep, the expansion vessel has spat coolant spots again. Several have reached as far as the suspension turret. But very little lost , I reckon possibly 1/2 an eggcup if that. Difficult to tell , I'll check in the morning see if it's moved since this morning. Then report back.

Jamie don’t overfill. It could be when that tank finds its level it will stop spitting out that coolant. It doesent matter if it’s not up to the given level so long as it settles and stays there.,

It doesent matter if it’s not up to the given level so long as it settles and stays there., I removed some this morning Charlie, it's now half way between low and high or max and min when cold. Interesting when I got home , did a visual check with engine still running. The coolant was just slightly below the max mark. I assume it's expanded , just like the expansion tank would on a domestic heating system. But I'll check again in the morning.

Yes it expands when hot. I’m inclined to agree just leave it to find it’s own level. You’ll also notice quite a bit of turmoil inside that header tank when the engine is running. That’s normal too.

Just checked it, no change from yesterday morning. It back at half way point , where I left it.
All good.
There's still splashes on the suspension turret, and a few on the side of the engine cover. I've also wiped away some sitting on right hand rib , rim , joint that goes all around the tank. Only reminense of pink , but it's visible. I reckon it spits out the tube then kind of runs around onto that rim , then the wind blows it around.
As you say Charlie, it's finding it's own level.

Just don't be tempted to fill it to 'Max' when cold and the level is testing between high and low and you should have no problems Jamie. I have had the pink splashes subsequent to servicing at MrT and the tank has been overfilled.

They should also know that the wee spring clips that go on the brake pads sit on the top, not the bottom..........

Much as I admire my local Mr. T for their work on our many Toyotas over the years, Mr. T main dealer garage bods are now "technicians" as opposed to real mechanics. They are proficient at reading instructions, not thinking!

something I would be inclined to do with a vehicle as complex as a RAV4 is to take out the TOYOTA extended warranty if you have not done so. It would probably pay for itself and at the least provides peace of mind for those who are inclined to worry.
