Well - number 1 RAV is about to be stripped apart - saving the engine/gearbox unit; front racing brakes, hubs and suspension; engine management system; alloy Dare wheels; race style seats; and alloy exhaust (a lifetime guarantee lol).
The bodywork structure is way beyond help having been welded several times.
Number 2 Rav came back from the garage after getting rear suspension damage repaired after a neighbours car rolled into it - however like any bump, it dislodges other things and after a fast run today, theres a problem with the rear diff; and the impact has shaken the goo holding the rust together on the sills!!
I'll attempt to sell number 2 given the amount of work done to it - running the 3SGTE engine upgraded with a piper cam; rebuilt engine with race pistons etc etc; as someone younger may have the ability to fix the bits.
Number 3 RAV is the temporary car - a 5 door 2001 4.2 RAV4 which is showing signs of early rust so selling that soon.
Still hoping we can rebuild a younger 4.1 with the engine and stuff rescued from number 1..... but now considering a Volvo XC90 R-series as a more comfy runabout.
The end of an era kind-of !!!

As is the fire engine - red 'green goddess'. Fire engine at 64 years old has less rust than the 2001 RAV ! Mind you, found a leak in the roof from the skylight!!

Ones I'm looking at are around 2011 - 2013 vintage. The 3 door 1994 RAV has been by far the best on snow covered roads; 1/4 mile sprint; and surfing roundabouts at 50mph. Can't see how a 5 door 2.7 ton tank could match that.... although it takes the 5 grandchildren a tad more comfortably. (so does the fire engine but much more expensive to fuel up) Hoping number 1 will resurrect itself with a new brush handle and head...... possibly in a black colour this time but could be spotted by the red KAD racing brakes and large bore exhaust (must be a joke around that)

Think all projects come to an end and some point, you’ve done stuff to 4.1s that not many other people have done so hats off to you 👍🏻👍🏻 , what was the outcome of buying a 4.2 swb and fitting all the bits over 🤔

By that time the mechanic who had done a lot of the original work had left to start his own garage and had no space for projects. I've ended up with a 5 door temporary car which is too rusty to bother working on so the plan is to switch number 1s valued bits onto a black 1999 car which has a decent body. That way its a straight forward swap. Then I'll need to undercoat the bits that I know get rusty - sills and back wheel arches.
Yes - you're right... I have enjoyed having both cars and the maniacal number 1 - an experience to look back at haha.

Had a test drive in a xc90 today - 2012 model foot hard down on wet country road and it twitched about a bit. Not helped by the 1.8mm tread left on the tyres...in fact I wonder if they had actually painted a tread pattern on rubber! Otherwise a nice car. But with it lying for around 2 months, the brakes were poor - and indications that the front calipers are sticking and the discs need replaced. (the salesman trusted me to drive it alone)

Have you considered a Landcruiser? They are now very expensive new but look reasonable with a bit of age and mileage!

Hmmmmm- sore point- it was my first choice but the boss hated it when we tried a used Landcruiser....too much like a tank/too bulky. Of course, she doesn't drive; only has an unused provisional licence but that qualifies her to comment on what I drive, how I drive and provide opinion on how others drive. Oddly, her navigating skills are useless but she still sits in the front passenger/co-driver seat. I think I managed to get her to accept the XC90 size by getting the guy to park it on a hill/slope where she could look down on it.

Perhaps you could find another one in a different colour and hope it looks less bulky!

What , another wife..? Probably stop there as three's a crowd.....
Bought a 2014 registered Volvo XC90 yesterday - clean car as one would expect from a showroom and traded in RAV number 3 saving me driving it back from Wetherby. Start of a new era.... Volvo forum; Volvo Performance Forum; alloys for a Volvo for low profile tyres....; performance chip for the engine; new regime to oil aw they bloody hinges as its 5 door..... ; and baby oil the leather seats.
