Somehow and it's a mystery, there are two short clean cuts, not rips, in the side of the base of my leather driving seat. Any thoughts on how to permanently repair it, and at the moment I have put a piece of Gorilla tape over it to hold it.

That's 'wear and tear' Ainsley - see what I did there?
Joking apart, there was a TSB early on about splitting in that area but I doubt you would have much luck going back to Toyota now.
As far as I know, that panel is not actually leather - it's PVC. As with most manufacturers who push leather seats, it's only the faces that are actually leather.
I believe it's quite a difficult spot to get to without removing the seat.
Ideally you would want to glue a suitable patch on the inside to strengthen and then use a PVC repair kit to improve the look of the face.
Do you have any upholstery specialists in your area - don't need to be automotive specialists, someone who deals with domestic stuff should be able to sort it out I would have thought.

ell, miracles do happen, and hope you can see the damage Hi Ainsley - I'm just catching up after a week without email etc, so if you've seen the attached document before, please excuse me. Your seat wear looks exactly the same as mine was and Toyota replaced the cover completely. They didn't do a very good job as they left out some of the fasteners which caused the seat to squash out at the sides over time. My local car trimmer had seen the problem before and has done an excellent repair - but he is in Bradford! Leather Seat cracking.pdf (150.26 KB)
If you want to repair it yourself, I'd be inclined to try some Pronty Self Adhesive Nylon Patching. It's very strong and you iron it into place. I got mine from a place in Abingdon, don't know how far that is from you but I could probably get my daughter to get you a pack ( mine has £2.15 on it, but that is about 3 years old ) and post it.

Thanks to you both for the input. Chris, how old was your car when Toyota did the repair, as mine is now 11 years old, so apart from being very low (39000) mileage, it is definitely out of guarantee! Plenty of the Pronty stuff on Ebay etc and Amazon so thanks for the offer, but I can probably get it locally, as sewing shops sell it as well! I seem to remember "vinyl weld" from years back for hood repairs, so if that is available then I could try that!

Mine was about 4 years old when the repair was done Ainsley ( I guess that it is only about 6 months younger than yours, first of the ones with no rear mounted spare wheel ). Interestingly there dosen't appear to be any cut-off date on the technical bulletin so if your vehicle is in the required "frame number" range, I'd be inclined to try it on with the dealer. After all, it is only through your meticulous care that you have managed to make the faulty covers last so long!

This is quite fortunate I am about to contact Toyota UK next week over this & ask they will still honour the TSB, I'll let you know how adamant the No was

I can say that I've had no problems with the replacement covers which have now done 40-50k miles, so the modification worked!

My mate has had both of his drivers seats done (he runs 2!). There is a place in Manchester that will sort it or any local upholsterer.

Just had a reply back from Toyota asking for the VIN, I provided them with the Reg but maybe their records are out of date, they want to check if the work had been completed previously, so at least it's not a straight out No!

Good news, provided them the VIN number this morning & just had an email saying they have no record of the repair being previously done & that the local dealer will be in contact to make arrangements. So it's worth a punt before paying out for the repair, i filled in this form www.toyota.co.uk/contact-us/email-us
