hello davrav, I did reply but I seem to have done something wrong and there's no sign of my reply. I'm probably bringing the caravan back to UK to flog it and do gites in the future. Unless I can find a site where I can store it and go to France without towing it as my wife's not comfortable with being in the car when I'm towing. If I do decide to continue towing, I'll have to get a smaller caravan and go back to the annoying procedure of turning the lounge area into a bedroom every night.

A colleague at work is on his 2nd Karoq. Swears by them.
They are a nice size and seem to be trouble free. Looks good in black.
Are they not on the same platform as the Tiguan and Q3?? Both pretty decent cars by all accounts.

It seems like they have a lot of parts in common with the Seat equivalent as well, but they all have characteristics and prices to suit different users. I was strongly tempted by the Mazda CX5 but a lot of monotonous research swung me towards the Karoq and I got the best part ex deal from a Skoda Dealer in Milton Keynes. I've managed to shield successfully and really didn't want the hassle of selling privately in the current circumstances. I paid £27,000 for the Sorrento and got £16,000 after nearly four years, which isn't a bad return. It was discounted by 5 grand when I bought it and I'm getting a good discount on the new Karoq (Carwow), so I'm happy. I've no doubt my Sorento will go on their forecourt for 20 grand, but that's business. I'm still trying to convince myself I've done the right thing. I could have spent the money on a new kitchen - oh well, never mind.

Now had the Karoq for nearly three weeks and it's a quality motor. Having got over the initial enjoyment, I'm now noticing the niggles. The Rav and the Sorento were more comfortable rides. I'm noticing all the imperfections in our roads, but I think that's the price you pay for big wheels with ridiculous rubber band tyres. Performance is brilliant and it's strange how a 150bhp petrol feels so much more responsive than a 150bhp diesel. My first automatic and I find the DSG box a real asset round the town and anywhere else in fact - don't miss the manual box and don't think I ever will. Looks brilliant in emerald green and I'm glad I resisted the sales persuasion to go for the autoguard finish or whatever it's called. I gave it a coat of Collinite and next day got up to see that a pigeon had scored a direct hit with a laser guided shite - which came off easily thanks to the Collinite. Up till now, no withdrawal symptoms for a Japanese or Korean product.

Just an update on the Karoq's uncomfortable ride. I checked the tyre pressures, which were all 2.5, which is the recommended pressure for driver and four passengers with five suitcases. I reduced it to the minimum of 2.1 which is for three passengers and three suitcases. As the car only carries my wife and myself and at the most, a week's shopping, this is all it needs and the minimum recommended pressure. We've never eaten loads of pies and don't have loads of spuds in our weekly shop, so the car's not straining under the weight. We can still feel the terrible Nottingham road surfaces, but it's not at all uncomfortable. Problem solved - I like the car again, but the satnav is proving to be unfriendly (got to moan about something).

My daughter asked me to go with her today to test drive the new Cupra Formenter. Great looking car; lovely, comfy interior; handles brilliantly and rides well. But I experienced at first hand just how awful the DSG gearbox is: you put your foot down and it takes what seems to be forever before the car responds. It makes pulling out into busy roundabouts a real buttock-clinching endeavour. How VAG gets away (still!) with selling such an appalling drivetrain escapes me. It is genuinely a safety hazard.

The dsg box in the golf I drove recently changed gear at a speed a Toyota box can only dream of. Pulling away off the line was sluggish though, we couldn't get to 60 quicker than 4.03secs

And what the f**k has a comparison with Toyota or any other maker's autos got to do with it? There are numerous reports in the motoring press over the last couple of years bemoaning the shortcomings of the DSG in many of VAG's cars; I guess they're all made up just to pi55 you off, eh?

Just read that there’s a new Hilux Hybrid coming that mates the 2.8 diesel with a 48V hybrid system. That could be interesting. 😊
