Further Update - Would seem cleaning the EGr has made no difference to the lack of power, did over 150 miles, various roads, no improvement, aver 30mpg, which is not great, really disappointed, don't really know where to go to next. perhaps I should have forced the flap/valve open, will try and get a garage to look at it this week. Firstly what I would Not do is force anything. What I Would do is get it ultrasonically cleaned as I mentioned above. Especially if you think the issue is EGR related. I cannot emphasize how good ultra cleaning is. I've had carburetors that simply haven't responded to the usual manual clean work like brand new after two cycles of 25 minutes in the ultra bath they function like brand new. Thats the reason I invested in my own machine, Of course it may be that its not the problem but its got to be worth a try the least you will gain is your valve is as clean as brand new.

Have you got a good diesel specialist anywhere near you? I've a cracking one near me but it's at Elland - which is a bit far for you! Bothwell Buyer might be a good guy to ask ( PM him ) as he's not too far from you.

Just an update, new denso EGR fitted, it has made no difference, car perhaps a little quieter, driven over 300mls still low 30's mpg and power down, pretty gutted.

Looking for some advice if possible please, I would like to change the Turbo Vacuum Valve as pictured, to see if that would have any impact on performance, but I loosened the nut tonight thinking it would pull up and away, but it does not, I can't see what else is holding it in place, has anyone removed or replaced this that could help. Thanks

Thanks I think your problem is most of us here who have that model and engine haven’t had hardly any problems even those with higher mileages…. It fairly unusual rare even to hear of issues. Remind me has the car been to Toyota ? Are there any specialists in your area or a good reliable trusted mechanic ?

Hi, Car has been to local garage who could only do a basic diagnostic due to their machine being updated, no codes were displayed. Mechanic also did a smoke test no leaks. Happy with install of EGR and Suction Valve both working. Does not think it is a turbo issue. Drove car and agreed there is s a significant issue, hopefully will get car in next week, work permitting. Found out there are two retaining bolts for turbo vacuum valve, might try this tomorrow even just to clean. Its so annoying the rest of the car is great but this is a problem.

I can appreciate it being annoying. Please keep us informed how you get on it might help someone in the future. I think you need a really good tech possibly a Toyota trained one. 👍👍
