Noticed a little diesel under the car today. can see signs of leak under the fuel filler side near the rear door. when i rang the dealer they reminded me that on my last service that it was corroded. Is it a big job?

Very common problem…….someone will be along shortly who knows….DO NOT get the Toyota part until told necessary. £££. There are pattern bits that work. Local indiexwill do too.

Hi Kev, got an over the phone quote from Toyota around the £500. i,ve seen a few posts on here now, and a couple of you tube videos. my nearest Toyota indie is shut! this week so will not rush it. Other than the normal wear and tear stuff, tyres battery and brakes this is the first thing that's failed in over 10 years of ownership. Not bad ay.

Hi Bob, the job is fairly simple if you run the tank down as far as possible ( saves draining, can be a messy proceedure! ) and jack up the whole of the car ( front and rear ) on the nearside as high as you safely can. After that just remove the wheel and guard, have a good clean up, remove the old pipe, fit the new one ( but not the guard ) put some fuel in and check for leaks. When all is OK, refit the guard. Probably a couple of hours work at the most if you work at my speed ( very, very slow these days! )

My new fuel pipe and filler fitted at Toyota . £460. Strange coincidence a nearby neighbour has a 2008 RAV4 and his has just failed. Toyota can't do it for 7 weeks due to parts availability.

I'm sure there would be a fair bit of interest Hi Chris. i may have found the cure for the dodgy hip. I've seen my GP , been sent to X-ray and now referred to the muscoloskeletal clinic for an assessment. If i get passed that i will see a surgeon. waiting times are another matter. as for the age thing ,i.m working on that

The physio had given me exercises designed to get my hip, knee and ankle all aligned properly. It made me think, "that's exactly what happens when I ride my bike with clippy pedals", so I gave it a go and the result is great! Keep working on the age thing Bob, it would be a big help to crack that one!

Hi Chris. i try to get on my bike as much as possible, certainly not 100 miles, that's impressive. i do a circuit of about an hour. i sail a dinghy and it takes me a few days to walk again after a windy sail. One of the guys at my sailing club told me to cycle as it will help the hip. he reckons he started at 70 when his started giving him gyp. he used to do 25miles 3 times a week. he only stopped last year after hitting a pothole and lost his confidence. he uses a static bike now. . he sails often and is amazingly fit. he's a young 90 . very inspirational.

An hour at a time is spot on Bob. My 100 miles was not all done on one day. Funnily enough, I used to sail a Wayfarer a lot of years ago ( and play badminton! ) but I'm just not flexible enough these days. So just walking and cycling now. I think that my philosophy is "you can't beat old age, so use all the low cunning that you've developed over the years to circumvent the problems!"

I think that my philosophy is "you can't beat old age, so use all the low cunning that you've developed over the years to circumvent the problems!" i sold my Fireball dinghy over a year ago and now sail a very modern MK1V wayfarer. Harder work to go a lot slower!. The Fireball was a little too much of a handful . i find the Wayfarer in some ways harder work. more sail area, but almost double the weight of my Fireball. I pick the days i sail now, if too windy i dont go out. this summer has been pretty awful from a sailing perspective , either blowing old boots or nothing. tacking with a dodgy hip is fun on a boat 6ft wide. life's for living and I'm trying to live it as best as i can.
