I’m not a big VAG fan and I particularly find Audis over-rated. Yes, they are generally well screwed together but their interiors are like sitting in a (very small) cave at midnight. Nevertheless our daughter has had two of them and hasn’t had any issues with either, so what do I know?😂 Have you owned one yourself Jim ?

I know two people that have had issues with air suspension on the Q7.

No, I haven’t, Charlie, mainly because, as I said, I cannot get on with VAG stuff (ditto Hyundai). Having said that, I’ve had to drive our daughter’s Audis on numerous occasions and I’ve had Audi courtesy cars from several accident management companies over the years. As I said, I don’t doubt their general quality but I just don’t like them. ☹️

I kinda understand this buying warranty thing. I’ve never done it cos I’ve always felt they are a moneymaker for some but I realise they offer assurance to those who like them. But today it seems repairing cars is sooooo expensive. Plus I guess it’s the brand that determines not only the cost of the repair but the cost of the premium. Some cars like Range Rovers and even Landcruisers are massively expensive to buy a really good warranty for. I checked out the cost of a warranty on a 2015 Range Rover because I did want it but firmly realise they are troublesome. I can’t remember exactly how much it was but it was around or over 3K. That’s a heap of cash for a policy we/I might never use. No wonder the cars don’t sell. Ian Pistonheads is a cracking forum to ask about Audis and the Q7. You get decent guys who don’t talk the crap we see on FB and it’s pages of loonies. I’d start in the Audi section there if you need a bit more information. I know of two mates who owned a Q7 long term and can’t remember any complaints. Big car big comfort and the interiors just a fabulous place to be. That 3.0 TDI engine has been around a long time now and is known to be excellent. Same with gearbox axle and injection system they just don’t go wrong.. it’s a big big car and they take some space to park . VED is not cheap. But you want a physicaly big car so should be fine. Thanks Charlie - I will go onto Pistonheads.
I've watched a few youtube videos about various Q7s - fixes and reviews. The air suspension fault video Iwatched was quite funny...a guy bought a Q7 from an owner who couldn't afford the £4k Audi wanted to repair/replace the compressor. He paid £1,000 to buy the car and found it was just the 40amp fuse had blown...with no apparent reason. I'm hoping to do a run around Europe later this year and need a comfy car. The 3 door RAV is too small for the stuff and not comfy enough. The Volco XC90 I had, I lost faith in as it blew 2 plastic turbo pipes apart 3 times just when I was needing the car. As it had 125,000 miles on the clock, I felt it would need suspension bushes etc sooner rather than later...the guy who bought it was taking it to th middle east...never heard another word.
Like many forums, one only hears bad news. The Q7 is a big enough car I can get in and out of easily. Didn't want to go back to Volvo.....and its a no to Jaguar (had one, been there and sold it); Land Rover - been there, had one and a complete nightmare; and only ever owned/driven Mercedes trucks which by and large are a heap of junk. Now, a Bedford RL truck.... haha

Oh, just remembered. I did have a Volkswagen Caravanette many years ago....if it'd survived would have been worth £50k now. Rot got to it, after I'd had to change the engine after the 1200cc pushed a conrod through the side of the crankcase. Swapped it for a 1300cc engine...one of the easiest engine swaps I've ever done. 4 bolts from memory!!

Lots of these big cars including most Range and Land Rovers have air suspension. It’s brilliant and that’s what gives the sublime ride quality. Anything added to any car means it can go wrong. We have a member here right now who needs two front McPherson struts that are seemingly quite expensive. Air replaces conventional but possibly or likely to cost more if it goes wrong. With LRs it’s When it goes wrong not If it goes wrong and it’s nowhere near as likely. My Nieces husband had a stunning white Q7 new as a company car back in 2010 when we lived near them in Scotland. That car did 180K miles in the six or so years he had it and only ever had serviceable parts. Hid dad had it when it was replaced with another Audi this time a Q8 that’s a hybrid and a truly stunning car. I drove it last year when my Niece came to stay with us …. That car also has been ultra reliable. We all know for sure that all cars can go wrong. Some more likely than others . If you were buying a car with say 100+K miles and we’re going to do 30K miles a year then a more expensive car to repair might not be the best idea. David says above get a professional really thorough inspection carried out rather than perhaps spend money on a warranty and in this case I agree entirely. Try to find an Audi specialist or maybe a tech that works for Audi. 👍👍👍

Thanks Charlie. The warranty is being offered/given by the garage regardless. No matter, as I'll get the car checked properly anyway...with a check on oils too.
I remember quite a few years ago we bought a Citroen BX19 estate. A marvellous car with great suspension...was it air? Used it for towing a caravan too. Then it got stolen and trashed....sadly ended up at Arnold to get repairs via RAC Insurance. Became a shambles as Arnold didn't repair the engine damage caused by a cracked sump then blamed us. Sold that car whilst in bits on their garage floor to said Arnold and never used the RAC again.Nor AC

They used to rise up when the engine was started. Party trick was you could raise the car and change a wheel without a jack. Think it was that car anyway, 👍👍

We looked at an Audi Q7 a few weeks ago...used the air suspension to pump the car up to look underneath then the damn thing wouldn't go back down! Needless to say, we walked away.
