Bad time really for buyers. Good vans as said are going like hot cross buns. Older Fiats suffer from rust - be careful and check thoroughly! I am not sure what year the started galvanizing the chassis. Obviously lower milage is better. Also, if it is a motorhome (i.e. not a van conversion) check for dump. It is less likely with conversions but not un heard off. Good luck in the search! Charlie - we are selling our caravan... But not sure you will want the configuration. Good luck for you as well in the search! I’m not searching right now. It’s more that the resorts are going to be rammed with people than the prices. I was looking at a large single axle 8ft wide with an island bed price range circa 20K. 👍👍 The Coachman VIP for example was our main want 👍👍 Ours will go for less, but it is a Bailey Orion 430/4. No island bed.

No island bed. We’re very specific in what we want. Having had a Motorhome and a caravan in the last few years means we know more than ever what will work best for us. But as I mentioned above I see no point in buying just now because of the resorts being pretty much booked up and therefore packed. We last went to Cornwall in September 2020 after the first lockdown eased. It was rammed and you couldn’t get anywhere near any of the places we usually visit. There were even queues in the car parks on the outskirts of places it was not pleasant or relaxing anything but in fact. I was hoping with folk able to go abroad that things might have eased but it seems to have got worse. Honestly the price of the caravan is to a point irrelevant. We can’t take it with us after all. But circling places hoping to find a parking space isn’t for us… We both would rather be at home.

None have cropped up, but I also would want to see and drive something, so it has to be within a reasonable distance.

From what I have seen on various Youtube videos they look like a very nice top quality brand (no surprise there considering you are looking at them ). Ref older motorhomes, I think I would be inclined to go for the more basic ones in terms of the cab mechanicals as you stand more chance of keeping it on the road as spares availability of parts that are not essential except for MOT passing seem to be getting rarer! The Fiats tend to be the most common but I think that is because they do a better deal with the motorhome manufacturers rather than being better in themselves.

I am having a look at a van tomorrow a 2002 ducato with the 2.0l jtd erg engine, it isnt the best engine that they put into the ducato and it is aparently a little under powered but the van looks like it is in good condition and price for a 2002 it has also only done just under 100,000kms, but i gather it can be sucessfully chipped to give it a bit more go and increase the economy.
Unfortunately if we like it we have to decide there and then as the way the market is at the moment if you go away to think about it will go.
I have heard peoplle on here talk about erg valves and wondered what they did.

I understand your want to find a van asap but still be cautious that the demand of vehicles doesent pressure you into perhaps not getting a good and mechanicaly good vehicle. I don’t know anything about that engine so can’t advise. What I can say is get under that van and check everywhere. Look carefully at where the body drain channels terminate at the bottom. A damp meter is a really good tool to take if you have one. Also do you have a code reader ? All the usual engine checks apply but when test driving get the engine under load and Labour it by driving in a gear to high. Listen carefully for knocks or rumbles. Commercial weight vehicles show much more than cars do…. Good luck 👍👍👍

We went to look at (and bought) the camper today a 2002 chausson welcom 70 4 berth for 16,500€ (£13000), 98000km owned by a couple in their early 70's but they have both been ill so practicaly unused the last couple of years, in the last 10000km all the brakes have been over overhauled including new master cylinder and pressure valves, cam belt and water pump, air suspension installed on rear 250w solar panel new radio with flip out screen with reversing camera, 5 new tyres. He is also including all its contents including quite a well equipped toolbox, and a battery socket driver, a 12.5ton hydrolic jack that can be pumped with a lever or from a compressor, camping chairs/tables.
A bit difficult to realy get underneath properly but what i could see looked pretty clean, we dont use salt on the roads as much as the uk and climate is drier so rust is not so much of a problem here.
Took it out for a drive and to be fair he directed me round a route including in town open roads and some hills where it was pretty windy first a head wind then cross winds a total of 35km it performed well and was nice to drive, no unexplained knocks bangs etc.
The one thing that had concerned me was the 2 liter engine which is a little underpowered so i was looking into the cost of chipping it and low and behold another thing he is including is a chip set he had bought and never installed, partly becouse the instructions were in english, but to be honest I wasn't underwhelmed with the performance as standard.
The only negetives i could see was that it was in need of a realy good clean neither of the couple are in good health and cleaning it inside and out would be impossible for them.
We are paying 16,500€ but i recon if you had it professionally valeted you could sell it again for over 20k€ within 2 days the market is mad here he had another 12 people inquire and that was within 3 hours of posting the add.
He will now get a new CT (french MOT) to register a vehicle in france the bi-annual CT has to be less than 6 months old, then i hope to pick it up next weekend.
