The issue that i have with the MMT is that it seem that the clutch life is about 80k miles. Guess where most cars for sale milage is...?

Thank you guys! That is good info. The Hondas a i am looking at are CVT. Going up to Yaris CVT seem to be a big jump in price. Had my eyes on a Honda with very low milage, by the time i called it was already sold... So far, the MOT history is very good, as you can see if a car was cared for...lots a garbage around If you can find a Jazz EX auto from around 2009 it has a massive sunroof and is one of my favourites!

Personally after reading reports on a Yaris forum I wouldn't touch an MMT gearbox Toyota.

Went to see a Honda Jazz today. Price was on the high side but only one owner. On paper all looked good, and for a good car you pay... Took the car for a spin, and did not like it... It has what i will call a jadder when you start... Googled it, cvt jadder... Can be oil change or more serious. For that price i expected way more. Walked away. No decent cars around, or they are few and far between (unless a decent one is with 6 previous owners, from a trader that take a picture near a privet house...)

It just my opinion but if the Corolla has no major corrosion underneath and the interior and body are still sound, I would spend money fixing it . As I see it, you’re going to spend north of 5k replacing it, yet it might only need £500/600 spending on it ? I’ve also been studying the market for small cars in automatic for your original price limit….nothing about but high mileage crap. It’s a real bad time to be buying cheap used cars …better to fix what you have …like I say just my opinion 👍🏻👍🏻

Got £230 for it... I think that the last three years the car was kept alive by the garage I was using. They suggested last year to think of replacing it. Unfortunately they retired and closed shop. I appreciate your opinion but It is all done now, and i cannot undo it. I think it was time, too many things lurking, I knew the car... I am not extremely pressed and will now probably wait for the new registration, as chances are there will be more availability then. I left my name in a few dealerships around here, and hope for the best. The alternative, if pressed is to buy a manual, of which there is more options, including Toyota.

Ok fair enough ..didn’t realise the garage was giving the car CPR at every mot 😁😁 My daughter would only drive an automatic and the choice at the moment is very limited. Two small auto’s that got my attention was the Kia Percanto an Hyundai i10, if you buy the right year they have a traditional automatic, then after 2017 went Mmt . Medium size Toyota would be the Corolla made from 2003 onwards, the 1.6 has a traditional auto gearbox and similar size to the old Corolla. Prices are in your budget but could be seen as old cars now.

I need to think- do I go for a replacement, like the Corolla you suggested or up the budget to get something a bit better that will last a few more years. As my daughter does not live near, my thought at the moment is to avoid older cars. Also, older car will need some spending on initially, so in my mind it is do i spend the money up front or later...

Simples - budget of around £4,500..... for that, one could purchais a beautiful Green Goddess in resplendent red; exhaust manifold upgraded 6 months ago; new roof covering in matt black; space for 5 passengers in relative comfort (compared to a 1920s tram); crash style gearbox; the benefit of other drivers moving to the side to let you past (if you put the lights on); loads of extras in the storage lockers, like a hydrant key, paraffin lamps, tarpaulins, a lightweight portable pump that only needs 4 people to carry it, an onboard pump to let you wash the neighbours windows half a mile down the road.... a bargain !!!!! It took me half an hour to stop laughing... I can spot a few issues though... My daughter live in Bath, and if you have been there you would have noticed that your red green Goddess will NOT go through quite a few of them. Also, i am not sure the university will appreciate it parked in the crammed parking lot... There are other minors like fuel consumption, i assume measured in liter/mile... I am very sorry but i will not accept you generous offer... Feeling really quite hurt now ! The parking of cars is not an issue as the front bumper is not ( NOT I emphasise) made of plastic. It is solid British steel, and the bodywork is known to flex comfortable if mounting kerbs, embankments etc....ie can go where no other cars will venture. As regards fuel, no probs....as all cars will be Torchie the Battery Boy driven so there will be a vast excess of petrol hence the price will come down soon! Oh well, each to their own haha.

Don't get me wring, if it was me, it would be a serious contender... I just do not think my daughter will appreciate it (i did forward her the description...)

End of the story, for now: Was looking all around the country... With the 'updated' budget... Found a nice Honda Jazz, 62 plate with VERY low mileage, but by the time i called it was gone (seen it in the evening, phoned next day at 10:00). On with the search, found a nice 61 plate, with a bit more milage (50K), phoned them up and had to put a refundable deposite. This is from a main Honda dealer. Went yesterday to see the car, and it looked good, so bought it. Got it today and drove it back home - it is very nice, so for now happy with it, and so is my daughter. It comes with one year Honda warranty and one year AA.
