Apparently, next year, as well as the current petrol Mazda 2 there will also be a hybrid version sold alongside. It will essentially be a Toyota Yaris hybrid with a Mazda badge.

So, folk will be able to buy a Yaris, built by Toyota, with Mazda badging - why would they want to do that? And where would they take it for service?
I can understand why Mazda would want to do this - for the hybrid technology and reduced emissions etc. - but what's in it for the consumer?

It happens all the time: the Subaru BRZ was a GT86, The new Supra is a BMW, the Daihatsu Terios was a shrunken RAV4.2, the Kia Pride was a Mazda 121, the noughties Fiesta was a Mazda 2, etc. Most buyers haven’t a clue about the progeny of their wheels and don’t really care.😊

And not forgetting Suzuki's Across which is a RAV4.5 PHEV. I'd have thought they might have come up with a catchier name though......

I suppose some people will have a Mazda dealer closer to them and that be a factor. Others may prefer one dealer to another. I will buy my next car from Honda, Mazda or Toyota but I have had bad service from all 3 brands so I guess it will come down to the car, the deal, and the warranty. With a 10 year warranty Toyota is a strong contender but the car and cost to change will be factors. Between a Yaris and Mazda 2 the deal would have to much better for me to choose the Mazda. Still it gives me a couple of cars to consider.

Toyota Aygo Citroen C1 Peugeot 107….. I would have an Aygo but no way would I have one of those French seaps of hit 😂😂😂 They're built in the same factory (in France, I believe) so the build quality is identical. Toyota tends to score on the length of warranty and customer service, compared to the others. AFAIK, the new Aygo due in 2022 won't have PSA siblings.

I don't seem to be able to get my head around whether I should keep the CRV, that is coming up to 5 years old but I still enjoy whenever I drive it, or change it for a new, cheap to run small car. So if I do change it will be for a Yaris hybrid Mazda 2 hybrid, Aygo petrol, or Jazz hybrid.

I love the Yaris hybrid and it's well exceeded my expectations.

Although that would be a sensible idea for many it is not for me. I was knocked off my bike as a child by a car that had been parked pulling out and doing a U turn in front of me on a busy urban road. I did ride a bike again afterwards but would only do so nowadays on a cycle track away from cars.

I love the Yaris hybrid and it's well exceeded my expectations. When I looked at the prices of the Yaris hybrid there seemed to be so many different model years on sale at the same time that I found it confusing! Maybe I need to try again!

There's only one MY for the Yaris on the current (December) price list - 2021.5
