But as my missus put it , £18 a month for my only hobby isn't a lot.

Charlie, and whem you sign up for Sky, it is crystal clear what you get, what is included and what is not included. it is that simple and just as simple as a roofing contract - except it seems the sky contract is more flexible as if you want extras not included as standard you can pay for them IF YOU WANT TO. I am not defending Sky in any way but what you are describing about their service and how they present it is totally and 100% incorrect. Perhaps I look at in to much of a simplistic way. We only ever had Sky once. That was when we went to Scotland. We subscribed to Sky including the sports channels. In fact the sports channel was my motivation..... I thought paying for the sports channel entitled me to watch all the sporting events Sky put on and showed in the adverts that lured us in. Of course I got a surprise when I was unable to view. When our year was up we cancelled. Every time and there were many a Sky rep phoned they got the same answer. “ When you give us ALL the sporting events in our package which includes Sports we will sign up again “ They have never had a single Penny coin off us since.....👍👍👍 The Sky Sports Box Office has always been an event-by-event extra cost. I have never used it as have zero interest in 99.9% of sport. The same goes for Sky Cinema - you sign up for Sky Cinema (a much more reasonable cost at £9 for around 10 movies channels) and you still have to pay extra if you want Cinema Box-Office for the very latest releases - I tend to just wait until a film moves from the extra-cost Box Office to the Sky Premier channel rather than paying the extra (and I use Sky Cinema via NOW TV anyway as you have exactly the same movies but at half the cost). What is more annoying than Sky in this respect is Amazon Prime where they seem to have so many movies which are extra cost and you don't see this until you click on the film you fancy watching and then find it is an extra cost - at which point I go looking for something else to watch! We probably pay more for TV viewing than many others as have Sky, Sky Movies (NOW TV), Sky F1 during season, Amazon Prime (mostly for shopping really), Britbox and Netflix (ID borrowed from a family member) - But as Jase has said, it is essentially a hobby and major form of entertainment for us. Many people love going out for meals - don't really do that. Many people think nothing of going to the pub every night and spending a hundred quid a week of booze - no thanks. We enjoy watching TV and if others don't, that is their choice. If they think it is a waste of month, that is their opinion and entitled to having that opinion, but they are not entitled to judge others on others choices. (Basically it pisses me off to be told that I am wasting money on Sky or whatever when it is nothing to do with anyone else. It is a free country and people can make their own choices for their own needs or wants)

I suspect that you are both correct ... Checking just now, if you sign-up for Sky TV + Sky Sports (£43 pcm) you get to watch 8 sports channels that include F1. I'm pretty sure that the original Sky Sports package did NOT include F1 - largely because F1 was originally shown for free on the BBC - and when Sky acquired the rights they saw it as an additional revenue opportunity ... which has subsequently been rolled into the Sports package as another reason to subscribe (to all that 'football' that I would never watch)!

... (Basically it pisses me off to be told that I am wasting money on Sky or whatever when it is nothing to do with anyone else. I rather suspect that some of us would welcome a more flexible subscription arrangement so that we can pay to watch what we want without having to subscribe to stuff that we are never going to watch. That is, largely, why we no longer subscribe to Sky at all - it provides a bumper bundle of things we don't want to watch and a relative paucity of stuff that I'd be happy to pay for ... ... and it's better for me to watch F1 on catch-up (or just read the results to avoid the cretin) as is wastes less time and I can largely skip the more boring races. Each to their own.

When Sky first got the rights to F1, they made it a Free add-on if you subscribed to the HD option for the normal channels - which was £10 a month at the time and was a way to promote HD which was still fairly new at the time. And anyone who kept HD also kept F1 'for free' (I have tried to use that "I have HD so should have F1" arguement with the Sky call centre a few times but never worked . I made the mistake of cancelling HD after the F1 season finished to save some money as I really see no difference in quality to be honest - and they later removed that HD/F1 link and moved it to be an official Sports Channel - so taking up HD again didn't give you F1 again Quite annoying as I have got HD again (at £7/month) as it is linked to an enhanced Sky Extra option for catch-up features, box-sets and better access via PC (which I want to be able to use when away in the motorhome to access Sky without a Sat Dish or Box). If I never cancelled HD for a time I would still have Free F1. Something that used to annoy me a little (and millions of others I bet) is paying for all the kids channels - Those later became a separate option you can choose to subscribe to if you want to - I don't (but would prefer to watch kids programs rather than something like Golf! If I was paying without choice for all those sports channels I really would be annoyed!)

Part of the reason I subscribe is to watch the full race with no breaks - and to have the option to record it and fastforward the boring bits rather than having someone else (C4) decide what highlights they want to show me (selected to match the time slot allocated). And THIS year, F1 is going to some tracks that I really want to be able to see the full races based on last year - Portimao and Mugello especially. However ... one significant reason for getting F1 on Sky is I absolutely DETEST the C4 F1 Presenter and I will pay money NOT to have to put up with him!

I frequent the Sky Q forum often and I saw that upgrade to full Sky Sports for £3 a month ages ago. I currently had the F1 channel only for £10. I added it to my package online within the Sky app in my account, I was unsure at the time, as to whether I'd get charged £3 or £13 per month, but either way, I wanted it because the Scottish national football team are currently doing rather well. Anyway, I have full Sky Sports and I'm only pay a extra £3 a month.

My "Zero cost F1" eventually made it onto my bill info at the normal price of £18 - which is I guess the price I signed up to. But as I has a message showing it as £10/month for 18 months (which was due to an offer still running I had in June 2020 but was for 12 months) I called Sky and spoke to a very helpful Indian chappy and sorted out a new contract .... So ended up with the FULL SKY Sports package rather than just Sports F1 (not a great benefit to me personally but hey ho) for £5 a month extra on my bill as well as avoiding the annual price increase that was due to come in generally next month, so a good deal there. Decided to add Sky Cinema back in as well at a discounted price as the same time (tried to get him to throw it in for free - gotta love a trier - but no deal).
