Earlier today the wife went shopping and when she’ got back home she said the doors not opening the same way as it used to. Didn’t understand what she meant so took a quick look. The doors opening fully now before it never used to open all the way. What is it I need to be looking for to see how it’s happened please?

If we are talking Rav4 Ash..are the two bolts to the check strap still done up tight, and does the strap still have that ‘click’ fully open sound ?

Pre-empting Bob, open the door, look at the hinge side (rhs). There's a flat(ish) metal strip anchored to the bodywork (or it should be) with 2? bolts, positioned vertically between the two hinges. The strip goes in and out of the door as it is closed and opened. Similar on all doors. That's the check-strap.

Ok pull the rod out with the eyelet on..from the door, you can see the pin on the main car body section has fallen out, Aline eyelet with pin hole and hammer back home. Might work or need a new pin.

At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, Ash, until you refit the door strap the door will be able to open beyond its intended range and could therefore collide with the edge of the door opening next to the tail light assembly. The result would be a very nasty crease in the door itself! 😕
