Thanks for your replies guys, but I've decided to just buy another battery. I'm not going to buy an expensive one as I'm not keeping it, but I want it to be reliable.

Hi
I need to replace the battery on my 4.2 petrol the petrols seam to have a tiny battery but the holder looks much larger, i guess it is the same as on the diesels, i would rather put a bigger battery on, would i get away with just ordering one for a diesel or is there anything else i would need to change.

Well, it seem that I have 'joined the club'... the corolla battery died, so ordered A Yuasa YBX3005 from Tayna, which arrived the next day and now fitted and working !
