Can anyone recommend a nice air freshener for the rav one that doesn't choke you  I got in the Rav this morning for the first time in a couple of weeks and there was a terrible whiff in there which i pointed out to Mrs P and she said i know that's why i've got all these air fresheners in here but i can still smell the fusty smell We had the same smell in the previous Rav and i tried one of those aircon bombs as suggested by Kev which was great for a short while but the smell soon came back? Is it all to do with the aircon or summat else do you think?

We had a terrible smell in this one at the beginning (we jokingly thought the previous owner may have died in it!).
We changed the pollen filter, used aircon bombs twice, bought the strongest air freshener we could find and, over a week or so, sprayed the interior and into the dash and windscreen vents with a freshener spray from Halfords. It did the trick eventually.
On the question of air fresheners generally, I like the Yankee Candle ones that come as little plastic jugs in various scents. :TU:

Tried all that Jim except the bombs, even tried spraying Mrs Ps perfumes which last a day or two but the fusty dead person :TU: smell just hits you when you first get in especially when it's warm. Daughters have bought the Yankee candles and again the smell of the cab over powers all the air fresheners  I've been told the aircon filters might need changing??

So is the smell in the vehicle without using the heater..air.con ? If yes start smelling seats, carpets , head lining etc. If only when heaters or air/con used ....can of air con cleaner which sprays deep down all the vent tubes could help. Then a check of the inlet heater port in the engine bay to see if anything has died in it !

The aircon has been used Bob, but as i say the smell hit me as soon as i got in the Rav yesterday morning which had been stood still overnight, but will try the sprays :TU:

It took a couple of months to get rid of ours, just by persistent use of sprays, etc. We thought something had died in the air-con matrix somewhere but the fan output seemed to indicate that there was no blockage. Don't know what it was. Maybe a bit of Devon manure? We'll see if Bob's car develops a pong...

I think it was the best spray I found but I think it probably masked the smell rather than eliminate it. It's a few years ago now but I think it was a difficult problem to overcome. I hope you succeed.

When we got it we did give it a thorough clean inside using the antibac wipes including the seats. Think i will try the aircon bomb again :TU:

I don't think are any dead animals anywhere the smell we have is more of a dirty fusty smell  The rear seats haven't been out but have folded them up to clean.
