There is a silver one up for £4000 that was bought not long ago for about £1000 less! It's not selling though! If the Red one had been nearer or they delivered like WCVC I may have bought it! The rust was an issue though!

The rust was an issue though! I am always a bit suspicious of these "corroded brake ferules" comments on MoTs of 4.2s. It used to be an almost obligatory advisory with a Toyota dealer that I used. Each time it happened I checked all four brakes afterwards and found nothing more than surface rust, easily dealt with by wire brush and Waxoyl if I was overly concerned about it. Putting it right for any worried owner was a nice little earner for the garage: a quick smear with grease for £70!
Rust found in chassis members, suspension or sub-frames needs investigation but this "brake ferrule" stuff is borrocks IMHO.

The only fail on our current Ravs MOT history was due to corrosion of the brake pipes and the exhaust all of which were done by the previous owner, they still have labels on, so isn't a major concern as they can be replaced as needed, unless as Jim says there is severe corrosion on the chassis members and subframes which would be the first port of call to look at underneath. During conversations with WCVC before the purchase, i made it clear that those areas were ok with no major rust issues, that way they knew i would be looking and if there had have been the Rav would've gone back, so i can't see why they would deliver a car nearly 200 miles just to have it sent back if it wasn't as they stated/described?? They sent some photos of the rear end at my request and i thought i could see a damp area on the suspension so phoned Jim and he had it checked out straight away and it was just where the waxoil had been applied. Worry over :TU: Still waiting for the window switch though

rusty brake pipes are often a failure or advisory incorrectly (if there is any surface rust, the tester will report as advistory as they cannot just wipe it to check it is just from being wet and in the atmosphere). I had brake pipes as an advisory and discs as a fail on a Suzuki MOT when there was nothing wrong with them. had a retest elsewhere and pipes not mentioned and discs went to usual "pitted" advisory (and NOTHING done to car in=between)
If pipes need replacing, it is cheap anyway. A pipe failed on my VW LT on a garage road test - cost £5 (parts and labour) to fix.
