Hi, Has anyone on here fitted wiring for a solar battery charger yet? As I have a question. The rear load bay 12v outlet and the centre console outlet can be converted to permanent live(as per another forum). Is there any form of diode control that would prevent the charger from passing current in the reverse direction back to the battery? As this would save running additional wiring.
Thanks, Hankspanky

No diode, only the relay.

Then hopefully once the relay has been bridged out to provide the permanent live at the 12v socket. The solar charger, through a solar regulator, can charge the battery directly through the socket. Can anyone see any issues with this thinking?

Well I have sorted the first part of me little project. Taken ages cos I have not been subject to this enforced holiday as I am a key worker apparently! So I bought myself a replacement power relay off of fleabay, took off the cover and wedged out the contacts so they are permanently 'made'. Then replaced the original relay with my 'updated' unit. I did this in preference to soldering a wire across the switched connector tabs as had been suggested, or making a jumper wire up, as this seemed to be a neater solution. Checked everything out, power is now live to the centre console power outlet and also to the boot outlet with the ignition off.
Now I just need to combine the solar panel and the management device into a single unit and we'll see if it works as hoped.

50watt panel. About 600x450mm.
But the existing feed wires that came with it look like they are made of sewing thread, they are so thin. Am going to set it up through a Digital multimeter with a ten amp shunt and check voltage and current o/p before connecting to ma Babbie! As I do not want any electrical misshapery. Any advice ref additional checks would be appreciated if anyone has any thoughts on the matter.
